After leaving his agency to go solo, Kim Dong Wan of the group Shinhwa visited Shin Hye-sung, who is laying low after a drunk-driving incident.

Earlier, in March, Kim Dong Wan made a significant remark related to Shin Hye-sung. At that time, with Lee Min Woo marrying third-generation Zainichi Korean Lee Ami, who is 11 years younger, attention grew because Shin Hye-sung could not be seen.
At a rare gathering of Shinhwa members, only Shin Hye-sung was missing, drawing fans' attention to his whereabouts. Shin Hye-sung was involved in a controversy after being caught for drunk driving in October 2022.
He is accused of driving for about 13 kilometers from a restaurant in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul, to an area near Tancheon Bridge No. 2 in Songpa District, Seoul, while still heavily intoxicated the next day after drinking at the restaurant. After asking a substitute driver to drive with a companion, he dropped off the companion, and after the substitute driver left, he drove while intoxicated and was later found asleep while the vehicle was stopped.
The fallout grew larger because Shin Hye-sung had previously been booked on drunk-driving charges in April 2007. He caused deep disappointment among long-time fans and the public.
In the first trial, the court sentenced Shin Hye-sung to six months in prison with a one-year suspended sentence. The prosecution appealed, and the court upheld the original ruling. Ultimately, neither Shin Hye-sung nor the prosecution filed a further appeal, and the sentence became final.
In this situation, when controversy arose over Shin Hye-sung not attending Lee Min Woo's wedding, Kim Dong Wan expressed displeasure, saying, "Why do people keep attaching meaning to someone's choice to live quietly? It's that person's life. They owe no debts and have no obligation to explain."
