Actor Lee Sang-yoon opened up about how he balanced activities in the entertainment industry and his studies and graduated from Seoul National University after 13 years.
On the 13th, the YouTube channel 'Zzanbro' released an episode featuring actors Shin Gu, Cho Dal-hwan and Lee Sang-yoon as guests, where they shared candid stories.
That day, Lee Sang-yoon, well known as a Seoul National University alumnus, opened by saying, "I attended Seoul National University for 13 years and ultimately graduated."
He recalled, "I started acting in the middle of it, and I couldn't do both at the same time," noting, "With my abilities I couldn't do both, so I was going to give up my studies. I wanted to continue acting."
But his parents thought differently. Lee Sang-yoon said, "My parents said, 'Things are going well now, but you must graduate. With a Seoul National University diploma, you can get a job anywhere and won't starve,'" adding, "After hearing that, I kept attending, but it wasn't easy."
In the end, he sought advice from Lee Soon-jae, a senior at Seoul National University and a senior actor who has passed away.
Lee Sang-yoon recalled, "The teacher told me, 'Graduate. Not necessarily because it's a Seoul National University diploma, but because the experience of finishing anything to the end will be a great asset in your life,'" and added, "That resonated more than my parents' words," noting, "So I trudged through and finished, and graduated," which moved listeners.
Meanwhile, Lee Sang-yoon is currently meeting audiences on stage in the play The Merchant of Venice.
