New Zealand actor Sam Neill, who rose to fame in Jurassic Park, announced he had been cured of blood cancer but has died. He was 78.
On the 13th (local time), Sam Neill's family said in a statement that he peacefully passed away at a hospital in Sydney, Australia, surrounded by his family.
The family said the death was very sudden and unexpected and that the cancer had not recurred. However, the exact cause of death has not been disclosed.
Sam Neill was diagnosed with stage 3 rare blood cancer in 2022 and, after undergoing chemotherapy, recently announced he was cured. In April he shared the news of his recovery, saying, "They say there are no cancer cells in my body. It's truly astonishing. I'm glad something like this could happen," and added, "Now it's time to make a new film," outlining plans to return to the screen.
However, shortly after the news of his recovery, the sad news came, and many film fans have expressed their condolences.
Meanwhile, Sam Neill gained much popularity playing Dr. Grant in director Steven Spielberg's 1993 film Jurassic Park. He also appeared in more than 150 works, including Sleeping Dogs, My Brilliant Life, Omen III: The Final Conflict, Possession, Cry of the Darkness, Peaky Blinders and The Tudors.
