The drama "The Husband," starring Namkoong Min, which has drawn attention, is attracting notice with its ratings report in its second week of broadcast.
On the 12th, according to ratings survey company Nielsen Korea, the third episode of KBS 2TV weekend drama "The Husband," which aired the previous night on the 11th, recorded a nationwide rating of 5.3%. This is 1.1 percentage points lower than the 6.4% of episode 2 broadcast on the 5th, but it is 0.9 percentage points higher than the 4.4% recorded in the first broadcast.
For dramas that air twice a week, ratings tend to fall on odd-numbered episodes and rise on even-numbered episodes. In the case of "The Husband," the decline in ratings for odd-numbered episodes appears more pronounced as its Saturday broadcast time overlaps with the recently popular SBS Friday-Saturday drama "Manager Kim." Accordingly, attention is focused on the fourth episode airing today (the 12th), as ratings are expected to rise compared with last week.
"The Husband" is a crime thriller drama about a man who fights a heartless criminal to save his wife, who was kidnapped just before their divorce. It is a work that drew expectations in particular because of the appearance of Namkoong Min. In episode 3, Namkoong Min and his on-screen wife Lee Sul exploded tension through intense action such as a head-on collision with a police car and attempts to break through the confinement room.
Above all, the happiest and most horrific moments of Kang Tae-Ju (played by Namkoong Min) and Go Se-yoon (played by Lee Sul) were shown in alternating scenes, maximizing the tragedy. Although the two laughed brightly at their wedding, they met catastrophe when their only daughter died. Go Se-yoon blamed Kang Tae-Ju, saying "It's all your fault!", and Kang Tae-Ju was devastated and miserable.
Moreover, Kang Tae-Ju is now being investigated as a suspect in Go Se-yoon's kidnapping. With all circumstances pointing to Kang Tae-Ju as the perpetrator, Lee Soo-hyung (played by Park Byung-eun) appeared and raised suspicions by proposing a deal to Kang Tae-Ju using Go Se-yoon's whereabouts as bait. Afterwards, Kang Tae-Ju evaded police pursuit, risked his life to flee and set out to find his wife.
Meanwhile, Go Se-yoon met Noh Man-hee (played by Kim Dae-myeung) in the confinement room. Noh Man-hee, a kind computer academy teacher and neighborhood neighbor, shifted between that and the shameless double life of a cruel kidnapper, adding tension, and his madness of smiling while threatening Go Se-yoon added to the sense of horror. In the meantime, Kang Tae-Ju searched for Go Se-yoon and again collided with a police car, and Go Se-yoon attempted to break the iron door with the metal ball attached to her ankle, among other escape attempts that alternated with the chase and aroused curiosity.
The drama "The Husband," which drew expectations with Namkoong Min's appearance, increases tension as a full-fledged escape episode unfolds. Riding that momentum, can it overcome the strong same-time competitor "Manager Kim" and record a rising trend in ratings? "Manager Kim" has already created a phenomenon by early surpassing 20% in ratings. Having set its own record with a peak minute rating of 7.3% in episode 3, attention is focused on what kind of grades "The Husband" will receive in the same-time ratings competition.
