Actor Kim Seong-gyeom appeared on television for the first time in eight years, bringing tears to the cast of "Goblin."
On the 3rd episode of tvN's "Goblin 10th anniversary trip," which aired on the 11th, footage aired of Gong Yoo, Kim Go-eun, Lee Dongwook and Yoon In-na traveling to Gangneung and of Kim Byung-chul, Lee El and Park Kyung-hye visiting them.
While they were enjoying the 10th anniversary trip solving "Goblin" best-scene quizzes together, video messages from "Goblin" actors who could not attend the location were shown.
Starting with Yuk Seong-jae, actors who created memorable scenes in "Goblin," including Kim Byung-chul, Yeom Hye-ran, Yoon Kyung-ho and Jung Haein, sent warm greetings, and finally actor Kim Seong-gyeom, who played Chairman Yu Sin-woo, surprised everyone by saying, "Na-euri, I see you after 10 years. Have you been well?"
In the video letter, Kim Seong-gyeom appeared more gaunt than when he appeared in "Goblin" and told Gong Yoo, "Na-euri has always held a place in my heart as Na-euri."
Kim Seong-gyeom also said, "Hello everyone. Nice to see you. Whenever I think of 'Goblin' it feels like a very long time ago, but it's already been 10 years. As the saying goes that the landscape changes, many things must have changed, but people remain unchanged. Time has passed like this. It feels like yesterday."
He added, "I congratulate the 10th anniversary broadcast, and thinking that it will be loved for 20 years and 30 years gives me strength."
After watching Kim Seong-gyeom's video letter, Gong Yoo shed tears and recalled, "I was surprised that someone I didn't expect appeared. It was good to see him healthy, and it moved me a bit. He reminded me of my father, since they are of similar age. Acting with him was so much fun. He wasn't authoritative and was comfortable."
Especially, Gong Yoo mentioned Kim Seong-gyeom's health during the filming of "Goblin," saying, "He left the show earlier than planned because his health was poor. The content was revised. He left after the scene where he plays baduk with me. I'm glad he's healthy."
Born in 1941, Kim Seong-gyeom is 85 this year. He debuted as a stage actor in 1960 and began full-scale activities after passing MBC's second open recruitment for voice actors in 1965. He met viewers through various works, but after playing Chairman Yu Sin in tvN's 2017 drama Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (Goblin), he has not been active. His last work, even as a special appearance, was MBC's The Great Seducer.
Appearing on television for the first time in eight years, Kim Seong-gyeom surprised everyone with the unexpected video letter, bringing tears not only to Gong Yoo but also to the cast and viewers.
