Singer Hye-eun gave an honest answer to a question about debt reaching 20 billion won.
Jeon Young-rok and Hye-eun recalled the hardships hidden behind their glamorous success and heyday on MBN's newsmaker talk show "Kim Ju-ha's Day & Night."
The 33rd episode of MBN's "Kim Ju-ha's Day & Night," which aired on the night of the 11th (Sat) at 9:40 p.m., recorded a peak nationwide rating of 2.3% according to Nielsen Korea.
Jeon Young-rok and Hye-eun recalled the various trials that followed the dazzling glory of topping the music charts. Hye-eun lamented that she suffered from absurd rumors, saying, "There were rumors with people I had never even seen, and there were rumors involving all the men at the broadcasting station at the time," and "There is a nephew, and there were rumors that he was a secretly born son." Jeon Young-rok also confessed his painful experience, saying, "I am the peak of funeral rumors. There were 123 pieces of fake news related to death."
Hye-eun revealed that she had panic disorder caused by the pain of divorce and debt, saying, "I couldn't sleep without medication" during a very difficult time. To Kim Ju-ha's question, "How did you pay off the enormous debt?" Hye-eun replied rather calmly, "I sang as if to die," which moved listeners to tears.
Above all, recalling a very difficult time, Hye-eun reflected on the meaning of friendship with Jeon Young-rok, who silently watched over her, saying, "If someone is a close friend, I think it's better to just leave them alone. Just quietly be by their side." In response, Jeon Young-rok expressed his sincere feelings for his long-time close friend, saying, "Because she said she was okay, I thought she was getting through it well," which created a poignant resonance.
Hye-eun and Jeon Young-rok confessed that they are still happiest on stage and passionate about music. Hye-eun said, "I will perform for a month at a small theater in Daehangno. Performing many times at a small theater is more fun than doing a few large performances," which drew cheers. In response, Jeon Young-rok emphasized that he wants to share memories with audiences for a long time, saying, "If there is a requested song, we can do it right away, and small theater performances are good for communicating. We must give memories, not just play songs." Then Hye-eun said, "I see about the next 10 years until my voice is gone... I want to keep singing," and Jeon Young-rok left a deep impression by saying, "I thank everyone at 'Day & Night.'"
Earlier, Hye-eun married a businessman in 1984 and had her first daughter, but divorced after four years. She later remarried actor Kim Dong-hyun in 1990 and built a harmonious family with one son and one daughter. However, she had guaranteed her husband's debt, and when Kim Dong-hyun lost the ability to repay, she had to repay debts amounting to a staggering 20 billion won. In the end, Hye-eun and Kim Dong-hyun divorced in 2019.<
