Then a call came from his mother, and Hwanhee, who answered on her behalf, learned that his mother had secretly gone to a part-time job interview. Hwanhee expressed his upset, saying, "What do you mean part-time job? I told you to tell me if you were short on money."
Hwanhee's mother confessed, "It's not right for me to just stay at home and always be indebted to you. When I first did 'Mr. House Husband' and money came in, I felt so good. I felt like my life was a life, and I felt more energetic than my age."
But Hwanhee angrily said, "That's nonsense. What part-time job?" In response, the mother raised her voice, saying, "I'm upset. I went to (the interview) and they all rejected me, and they don't even treat me like a person."
Seeing the mother and son's conflict explode, Eun Ji-won said, "I probably would have just let her do it. I don't think she would stop just because someone opposed it," expressing his opinion.
In a subsequent interview, the mother explained why she wanted a part-time job, saying, "What dreams would I have had in my life. I spent my life supporting others, but after going to Jeju, I wanted to go out, and I could give even small things to my grandchildren."
However, for the 74-year-old mother with no experience, the barrier to part-time work was too high. The mother, who was secretly looking for part-time work, was repeatedly rejected because of age limits.
Meanwhile, Hwanhee called his older brother and shared his worries about their mother. His older brother instead persuaded him, saying, "Think of it as a turning point in mom's life and try not to be so negative."
The next day, Hwanhee said, "Have I been holding my mother back? I think I haven't considered my mother's life enough," and took his mother to consult about senior job opportunities.
The mother, who thus challenged her first part-time job, regained her smile as she experienced everything from pressing sesame oil to a cafe trial. The mother said, "Coming out like this made me realize this is what life is. Energy welled up. Even doing hard labor, it didn't feel hard. I felt the joy of life."
