Actor Lee Tae-sung surprised viewers by revealing that he is active as a painter and that his annual material expenses can reach up to 100 million won.
On the 11th episode of the MBN variety show 'Dongchimi', under the theme "being addicted isn't a crime," the cast shared stories about their various hobbies and addictions.
That day Lee Tae-sung said, "It started as an addiction but now it's a routine," and "I have a strong desire to do my work well."
He, who was a baseball player in high school, later debuted as an actor and is now also active as a painter. He said he has established himself as an "art-tainer," even participating in overseas exhibitions.
When asked if he had talent for art, he answered, "Time really flies when I draw," showing his love for painting. He added, "The theme of my paintings is human relationships," and revealed, "So far, I've submitted about 3,000 works to exhibitions over the past 10 years," surprising the cast.
Hearing this, Hyunyoung exclaimed, "That's 300 pieces a year, 30 a month, isn't it?", and Choi Hong-rim said, "At that level it's not an addiction but a profession," drawing laughter. Lee Tae-sung confessed, "At first I felt catharsis simply from seeing color applied," and "Wanting to do better, I kept thinking about methods, which led me to buy materials, and eventually I developed an upgrade addiction of seeking better materials."
He said his investment in his works was particularly remarkable. He said, "Materials like paint and canvas cost a tremendous amount," and "It costs about 70 million won to, at most, 100 million won a year." He explained, "Using good materials greatly improves color rendering and the preservation of the work is definitely different."
Hearing this, Hyunyoung marveled, "How can it be this perfect?", and asked, "What is your dream as a painter?", making Lee Tae-sung embarrassed. The cast joked, "Soon Lee Tae-sung's paintings will be hanging on every wall of Hyunyoung's house," eliciting laughter.
Meanwhile, Lee Tae-sung confessed that although he was once deeply into golf, "at some point it felt like stress so I quit."
When asked if there was something new he wanted to get addicted to, he replied, "I want to raise a big cat from a cub since childhood. Seeing people in the Middle East keeping companion big cats made me think about it." In response, Noh Sa-yeon shot back, "Then take me with you," provoking peals of laughter on set.
