Singer Hye-eun opened up about the difficult times she endured due to baseless fake news and rumors.
On the 11th the MBN variety show Kim Joo-ha's Day & Night featured Hye-eun and Jeon Young-rok, who candidly discussed the hardships they experienced during their long careers in the entertainment industry.
That day Hye-eun said, "There was a lot of jealousy around me and a lot of fake news," and "Rumors linking me to people I hadn't even seen kept circulating," she began. She went on, "At the time, rumors tied me to almost every man working at broadcasting stations. They followed me even as the years passed," she said bitterly.
She especially recounted an episode in which her daughter was hurt, evoking sympathy. Hye-eun said, "I left clothes at a tailor in the market and sent my daughter alone to pick them up, but the women there said, 'It was better when she lived with Gil Ok-yoon,'" she said. She recalled, "My daughter came home crying. I was so angry I wanted to go after them and not let it go, but my daughter cried and stopped me, so I let it go as if it never happened."
The rumors spread even to her family. Hye-eun confessed, "There were rumors that my nephew was actually my son. There were even claims that I had given birth secretly," adding, "There are probably people who still believe that." She continued, "I even carried my nephew's birth certificate around. It was so severe that I couldn't live," she confessed, drawing sympathy.
Comedian Moon Seyoon, who appeared with her, also mentioned suffering from fake news. He said, "There was fake news saying I was divorced and living separately," and "But maybe it didn't get many views, so it disappeared quickly," he said, prompting laughter.
