Rising actor Lee Seong-shin is showing a deeper gaze and highly immersive acting through the short drama "Check Mate."
Lee Seong-shin plays the role of Jung Eun-seong in "Check Mate," released on Lezhin Entertainment's short drama platform "Lezhin Snack," capturing attention in key scenes.
In the drama, Jung Eun-seong, played by Lee Seong-shin, was the undisputed top student who drew everyone's attention during her school days and was the decisive figure who triggered deep inferiority and obsession in the protagonist Lee Suhyun (Chun Woo-jin). As time passed and the two meet again, during the process in which tangled past emotions and present events interlock, Jung Eun-seong played an active role as a core character driving the drama's tension and changes in relationships.
In particular, Lee Seong-shin meticulously built the narrative of Jung Eun-seong, from her cool composure to her wavering interior and the sincerity hidden within.
The moment when Lee Seong-shin's performance stood out most was in the sparking relationship with Lee Suhyun. In Jung Eun-seong's first appearance early in the drama, she completed the character's symbolism with a relaxed attitude and natural presence alone, convincingly portraying the starting point of the conflict.
Then, time later, the reunion scene in which she meets Lee Suhyun again shifted the tone of the drama. Unlike Lee Suhyun, who expected to be recognized, Jung Eun-seong conveyed a strange distance within a calm, seemingly indifferent expression, delicately showing the taut tension flowing between the two characters.
In the latter part of the drama, she revealed a reversal of emotions of coldness and warmth that could not hide her worry and anxiety toward Lee Suhyun. In a crisis, she emitted both a wavering gaze and desperate charisma, completing Jung Eun-seong's complex salvation narrative.
Lee Seong-shin, who debuted as a model in 2018, was active across various fashion show stages including Seoul Fashion Week and TV commercials. In 2021 she appeared as the male lead in the music video for the emotional band Nerd Connection's "Will we become a song," and through modeling, advertising, and music videos she has expanded her activity spectrum to the trendy short drama field.
