Group NewJeans' hit song "How Sweet" has been embroiled in plagiarism allegations, and the agency issued a statement.
On the 10th, Dispatch reported that four people, including composer Audrey Amacost, filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against NewJeans members, their agency ADOR, and parent company HYBE, claiming that NewJeans' hit song 'How Sweet' plagiarized key elements of their demo track 'One of a Kind', and that Dispatch had obtained the complaint.
According to the report, 'Bana,' who was responsible for composing and producing "How Sweet," delivered an instrumental track through U.S. publishing company Pulse Music and requested topline work; Audrey Amacost and three others created and sent toplines together but were not selected.
However, they later claimed that the topline they created was used in the subsequently released "How Sweet." The credits for "How Sweet" list Min Hee-jin as executive producer and Kim Ki-hyun, CEO of Bana, as A&R director.
In relation to this, ADOR told OSEN on the 10th that the disputed recording was a song acquired through Bana, whom then-CEO Min Hee-jin had selected, and that they are reviewing internal materials to determine whether Min had properly conducted similarity checks on the recording at the time.
Meanwhile, NewJeans' "How Sweet" is based on Miami bass with provocative electro sounds added to give a sparkling feel, and it was released in 2024.
