Amid continuing rumors surrounding singer Koo Jun-yeob and the late Seoheewon's estate, former husband Wang Xiaofei's side has issued an official statement.
Earlier in February, Taiwanese media ETtoday reported that some weeklies said Koo Jun-yeob and Seoheewon's mother were in conflict over the estate and that both sides were preparing legal action.
However, at the time Seoheewon's family strongly denied it. Seoheewon's mother said "I hate lawsuits that make people suffer and only waste money," and "I now call Koo Jun-yeob my son. He is my son, he loved Seoheewon so much and respects me. I also love him."
Younger sibling Seoheeje also said "Koo Jun-yeob is the person who gave my sister the purest love. He is part of our family and we will protect him forever," directly refuting the estate dispute rumors. In particular, Koo Jun-yeob also said at the time, "Because Seoheewon's estate is assets collected for the family she loved, I intend to give all my rights to mother-in-law," expressing that he had no personal greed.
Now, about five months later, Seoheewon's ex-husband Wang Xiaofei's side has also released a statement regarding the estate.
On the 8th (local time), according to ETtoday, Wang Xiaofei's lawyer said in a statement, "Wang Xiaofei applied to the court to appoint a special guardian to protect the rights and interests of his two minor children, and the appointed lawyer is currently proceeding with the estate partitioning process."
He went on to explain that the statutory two-thirds share that the two children inherit is being managed through a trust-only account, and that the one-third inherited by Koo Jun-yeob is a matter for Koo Jun-yeob to decide himself, and they respect that.
Regarding the controversial Taipei house mortgage, they emphasized, "Wang Xiaofei is currently continuing to pay the loan on behalf of the two children's shares, and the property is not at all in a situation to be auctioned off."
They also drew a line regarding reports that Seoheewon's mother could be evicted from the house, saying, "Both Wang Xiaofei and the two children support Seoheewon's mother continuing to stay at her current residence, and have never once asked her to leave." Wang Xiaofei's side urged restraint from unconfirmed speculative reporting, saying, "Some media reports and internet rumors differ from the facts and are causing great pain to the family."
Meanwhile, the late Seoheewon died last February while traveling in Japan from acute pneumonia. She was 48. Since then, Koo Jun-yeob is known to have continued visiting Jinbaoshan cemetery where the deceased is entombed to pay his respects.
