Actors Hyunbin and Son Ye-jin's family trip continues to draw attention. Following photos of an Okinawa trip released directly by Son Ye-jin, reports of sightings in the United States have spread, generating intense interest. However, critics point out that private life captured and indiscriminately shared by third parties, rather than moments the star disclosed themselves, is clearly a different issue.
Recently on Chinese SNS Weibo and various online communities, photos and videos of Hyunbin and Son Ye-jin spending time in the United States with their son spread rapidly.
In the released photos, the two wore comfortable clothing as they viewed an exhibition and spent relaxed time with their family. The filming location is presumed to be the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, but the exact location has not been confirmed.
This sighting drew interest also because it came after last month's family trip to Okinawa, Japan, representing another recent update.
Earlier, Son Ye-jin directly shared photos of her Okinawa trip on her SNS. She showed moments hugging her husband Hyunbin and daily life with their family, but covered her husband's and son's faces with stickers. Even in group photos, only the two were thoroughly concealed, showing an effort to protect the family's privacy.
But later, eyewitness accounts and videos claiming to have met them by chance locally spread online, and reactions evaluating the still-young child's appearance followed, with comments such as "the child is as pretty as AI" and "the most beautiful child I've ever seen."
The situation during this U.S. trip was not much different. Photos and videos taken during a private vacation spread quickly online, and in some places attention again focused on the child's appearance and visuals.
As Hyunbin and Son Ye-jin are leading actors representing Korea, it is natural that interest centers on their family's recent situation. However, there is a different nature between a celebrity willingly sharing personal moments and vacation photos taken by others that spread without their consent.
In particular, Son Ye-jin has shown a cautious attitude by sharing family photos on SNS while never exposing her son's face. This is seen as a parent's choice to protect their child's privacy.
Still, the fact that photos and videos taken abroad are shared in real time and various evaluations of a young child's appearance continue raises concerns that this could lead to further invasions of privacy. Some have even reacted, saying "isn't it only a matter of time before the son's face is revealed?"
Separately from interest in public figures as parents, a child has not chosen to be exposed to the public. It is time for a societal discussion about how much of a private family trip can be consumed and how much protection a young child's privacy should receive.
