'Shim Hye-jin's niece' Shim Jae-won moved judge Yang Soo-kyung to tears with a ballad full of sincere affection for his aunt.
On the final stage of TV CHOSUN documentary variety show The Lovers of Joseon 5th anniversary special project The Lovers of Joseon song contest, which airs at 10 p.m. on the 13th, Shim Jae-won, who advanced through fierce preliminaries, will participate and reveal the special story behind his main stage performance.
Shim Jae-won, born to an American father and a Korean mother who is the sister of actress Shim Hye-jin, captured attention from his debut with his distinct, sculpted visual features.
Before the final stage, he cautiously opened up about deep family matters. Shim Jae-won confessed, said, "I prepared a ballad that is my life song and is from my mother's homeland of Korea," and said, "My mother died at the young age of 19. During those lonely times when I was left alone, my aunt Shim Hye-jin filled everything and supported me emotionally until the end," making the venue solemn.
He continued, "What does not change over time is my deep love for my aunt, and I wanted to express that in song," revealing his special affection for his aunt Shim Hye-jin, who devotedly raised him in place of his late mother.
As soon as Shim Jae-won's heartfelt and touching final stage, packed with sincerity, ended, the judges' seats turned into a sea of tears. Special singer Yang Soo-kyung burst into tears and sobbed as soon as the song ended.
After composing herself for a long time, Yang Soo-kyung said, "I'm pathetic. The girl who used to call me 'aunt' and follow me recently got married. Hearing that affectionate song for an aunt makes me think a lot about my daughter who is now far away in the United States," revealing her choked-up feelings.
Yang Soo-kyung added, "Because he repaid that great gratitude to his aunt with such a beautiful song, today Shim Hye-jin must be the happiest aunt in the world," offering a sincere judge's comment that filled the venue with warm emotion.<
