Trot singer Taejin-ah's son and singer-actor Iru expressed his feelings about appearing before the public for the first time in about four years.
On the 7th, Iru posted on his social account "It was a cautious and very nerve-wracking stage since it has been a long time since I stood on stage."
Earlier, on the 6th, TV CHOSUN's 'The Lovers of Joseon' aired a special five-year anniversary singing contest. Iru, with his father Taejin-ah watching, took the stage in the singing contest and shared his long-awaited recent news.
Iru was booked by police on suspicion of drunk driving after crashing into a guardrail on the Gangbyeonbuk-ro in Seoul at around 11 p.m. on Dec. 19, 2022. At the time, Iru's blood alcohol concentration was at the level for license suspension, and he bowed his head, saying, "There is no excuse. I sincerely apologize." At the same time, he left the KBS2 daily drama "A Woman of Secrets" and took time to reflect.
However, it was later revealed that Iru had been booked on the same charge as recently as Sept. 2022, just three months earlier, which shocked people. Iru testified that the passenger was driving, but the police judged this to be false and sent the passenger to prosecutors on charges of switching drivers. The court sentenced Iru to six months in prison, a fine of 100,000 won, and a one-year suspended sentence, and the prosecution appealed citing a light sentence, but the appeal was dismissed.
After sharing his daily life only through social media, Iru stood before the public again after about four years of controversy through 'The Lovers of Joseon.' On stage, Iru said, "I never imagined that my mother would develop dementia. At one point I looked at my father and he had aged a lot. Watching him stagger, I was terrified thinking he could get hurt," and added, "If my mother happens to see this broadcast, I want to say I'm sorry and I love you. I'm sorry for being born as your son. I caused you so much worry. If there is a next life, I want to be your son again. See you again, mom. I love you," shedding tears.
Afterward, he passionately sang his signature song that his mother liked, "Black Glasses," and performed a joint stage of "Ok-gyeong-i" with Taejin-ah. After the broadcast ended, he posted a short message along with a video of the recording site on social media.
Iru bowed his head again, saying, "It was meaningful and I am grateful that I could once again show my image on screen to my mother. I was joyful and happy amid the support and encouragement of many people. Thank you once again."
