Group Fin.K.L.-born musical actress 옥주현 unleashed her anger toward musical actor Kim Ho-young by bringing up the so-called "Okjangpan incident," which shook the theater world, again after four years. While her position, appealing her innocence and demanding an explanation, is gaining legitimacy, the harsh expressions and sharp tone directed at the other party have once again come under scrutiny.
Recently, 옥주현 confessed the massive damage she suffered from the past "Okjangpan incident" through the fan communication platform Bubble. She said "The diet probiotic commercial was taken off the air five days after it aired because of that incident," and "If I didn't prove that I was not guilty, I would have had to pay three times the penalty," revealing how desperate the situation was at the time.
She went on to express resentment that the associated keyword had become fixed as "Okjangpan," saying "What I most regret after that incident is that I withdrew the lawsuit." Although she withdrew the lawsuit under pressure from a series of appeals and criticism from senior musical actors and outwardly appeared to have reconciled, she admitted that the bitterness had not been resolved at all. 옥주현 exposed an anecdote from when she withdrew the suit in which Kim Ho-young called and explained, "Thanks for withdrawing the suit. But I never targeted you," saying he was promoting a friend's father's floor covering, and she asked again whether he had truly targeted her.
Considering the concrete damages 옥주현 suffered, such as the threat of a commercial penalty and reputational harm, her demand for an explanation and anger are sufficiently justified. However, it is also true that some of the rough words she poured out without filtering while talking to fans are making parts of the public frown.
In the early stages of the incident, 옥주현 also stirred controversy on social media with the sharp phrase "Those who move their mouths and fingers without regard for the facts should be punished." In this recent disclosure, she did not hesitate to belittle the other party by relaying a remark from an acquaintance aimed at Kim Ho-young: "It's annoying to see your name appear alongside his in articles next to a kid who has been desperate to become famous for a long time."
As news of 옥주현's remarks spread, public reaction sharply divided. Some deeply sympathized with 옥주현, saying, "How wronged and frustrated would she have to be to have suffered until now, four years later," and "It's natural to be angry because she even suffered actual advertising damage."
On the other hand, there has been no small amount of criticism over the belated targeting method that clashes with her past actions of withdrawing the lawsuit while expressing remorse, and over using excessively emotional and harsh expressions as a public figure. Internet users voiced concerns, saying, "She seems to think only about her own hurt and does not recognize the verbal violence inflicted on the other party," and "Her demand for an explanation may be justified, but the dignity of her expression is regrettable."
