A member of Chinese idol group ONER dealt with an obsessive sasaeng fan, drawing attention.
Recently, videos of ONER member Wewe (real name We Minghui) punishing a sasaeng fan have been spreading online through community forums, social account, YouTube and Douyin.
The video shows Wewe in the middle of an airport picking up and throwing the drink he had been drinking at an obsessive sasaeng fan. Before boarding the plane, when the obsessive sasaeng fan continued filming from a distance close enough to reach if they stretched out their hand, Wewe threw the drink he was holding.
After the commotion, Wewe's actions were seen as impressive. After punishing the obsessive sasaeng fan, Wewe bowed his head to apologize to airport staff and cleaners, then cleaned up the drink he had thrown with a mop and took care of the situation. The public has praised the scene, saying it harshly judged the obsessive sasaeng fan while showing courtesy to on-site workers, calling it a "refreshing response" and saying it generated a "sudden favorable impression."
This is not the first time ONER members have punished obsessive sasaeng fans. Earlier, member Lingchao saw an obsessive fan thrusting a phone close to him at a Chinese train station, knocked the phone down with his hand and engaged in a scuffle. Also, as soon as Lingchao got out of a car, he grabbed an obsessive sasaeng fan by the hair and pushed them away in a throwing motion, and staff had to hold him back. When such actions became controversial, Lingchao's side said, "They are sasaeng fans who repeatedly violate privacy, and we have reached a settlement regarding compensation for the damaged phone."
Regarding these ONER members' responses to sasaeng fans, some people expressed sympathy with comments like "a refreshing response" and "how long must they have endured to explode like this." On the other hand, opposing views saying "no matter how uncomfortable or distressed one is, violence is wrong" have also continued.
ONER is a Chinese idol group that first gained recognition before debut as trainees under the pre-debut brand BC221. They appeared on the large-scale survival program "Idol Trainee" broadcast on iQIYI in 2018, and despite not being from a major agency, they made an impression with exceptional physicals and a down-to-earth, cheerful, unexpectedly charming appeal. Although they did not make the final debut lineup, all members ranked in the upper tier and built a fandom, and based on that popularity they officially debuted in August 2018.
ONER continued their hot popularity by selling out fan meetings and concerts at record speed upon debut, based on their distinctive "adult sexy" charm. The group is regarded as maintaining its own musical color and enjoying longevity despite member changes and turmoil in the Chinese idol market.
