Singer and musical actress Ok Joo Hyun conveyed a lengthy statement about her past 'Ok jangpan' controversy.
Ok Joo Hyun said on her social media on the 8th, "It took a long time to write this," and began, "Some may think this is already in the past, and some may wonder why I am talking about it again now."
She continued, "Until now I thought pretending to be fine and staying silent was the best," and said, "I have spoken about my position in several interviews and articles, but I felt that why I had to say those things and what I endured during that time were not properly conveyed."
She explained, "At the time I withdrew the complaint because I did not want to further escalate the controversy, and when I heard explanations that 'I never targeted anyone even once' and 'it was a post to promote a friend's father's Ok jangpan,' I decided not to discuss the matter further." However, she said that the frame did not disappear simply because time passed.
Ok Joo Hyun confessed, "The term 'Ok jangpan' became a nickname attached to my name, and since then I had to endure long periods of suspicion, mockery and criticism." She added, "The term did not end as a simple joke or happening," and admitted, "It actually affected my image, endorsements and work activities, and even when choosing or stepping away from a project, I had to worry whether that frame would become a burden to others."
She continued, "In the end I even decided to withdraw from projects for the sake of everyone. It was because I did not want to cause further harm to the production," and said, "In that process I felt bitter that I belonged to this musical community, so I poured out my heart to fans. That was separate from professional consciousness." She also expressed, "It may be an old story that has become tiring to some, but for me it was an event that left deep wounds on my life and career as an actress."
Ok Joo Hyun said, "What I want is not a simple emotional fight," and asked, "If those words truly were not aimed at me, why did so many people think of me, and why were the damages and wounds that resulted never explained once in front of the public?" She added, "There were moments when I was not emotionally careful, and I am reflecting on that," while emphasizing, "I hope my name is no longer consumed as the mockery 'Ok jangpan.'"
Finally she concluded, "I want people to know that this was not a simple nickname or meme but something that actually affected an actor's life, stage and career," and wrote, "I want to continue to be judged as an actress on stage. This post is me finally telling my story in my own words after not being able to do so until now."
