Actor So Jisub starring in "Manager Kim" hit a 21% viewer rating and even achieved the No. 1 spot globally.
SBS Friday-Saturday drama "Manager Kim" recorded 10,500,000 views (the number of viewers calculated by dividing viewing time by the work's total running time) and 44,100,000 viewing hours, becoming the first to rank No. 1 among non-English shows in the global top 10 since its broadcast. It took the joy of reaching the No. 1 spot for the first time by defeating "Teach You a Lesson," which had held the No. 1 spot for four consecutive weeks. In addition, it ranked No. 1 in 11 countries including Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Bolivia and Peru, and appeared on the top 10 list in 79 countries.
"Manager Kim," which premiered on the 26th of last month, is based on a webtoon of the same name and is a father-universe revenge action piece in which "the most ordinary" father becomes "the most dangerous" man to get back his only daughter. It recorded 9.5% in episode 1, and jumped to double digits at 15.7% in episode 2, surprising everyone. Continuing its upward trend, "Manager Kim" recorded 18.8% in episode 3 and an astonishing 21.6% in episode 4, creating a sensation in home viewership.
This is attracting attention as a "mini series that surpassed 20%" born after two years. Even compared with SBS's past mega hits such as "The Fiery Priest," "Stove League" and "The Penthouse 2," the rise of "Manager Kim" is the fastest on record, and it has the highest viewer rating for a fourth episode broadcast.
Expectations for season 2 are also rising.
"Manager Kim" is a total of 10 episodes, making it very short in episodes compared with typical dramas. Voices say it is a pity that the webtoon's story cannot be fully contained.
