Actor Shin Ye Eun revealed her views on dating.
Shin Ye Eun gave a series-ending interview for the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama "Doctor on the Edge" (writer Kim Ji-soo, director Lee Myung-woo, planned by KT Studio Genie, produced by The Studio M, original work KakaoPage "Jonbeo Doctor" author Kim Tae-pung) on the 7th at a cafe in Palpan-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
"Doctor on the Edge" is a medical human romance depicting public health doctor Do Ji-ui (Lee Jae-wook), who arrives on the notoriously dreaded island Pyeondongdo that everyone avoids, and nurse Yuk Ha-ri (Shin Ye Eun), who has many secrets. "Doctor on the Edge," which premiered on the 1st, recorded a 4.0% viewership rating (Nielsen Korea nationwide) and made a strong start as ENA's highest-rated Monday-Tuesday drama to date. Reaching a peak rating of 5.2% (episode 4), "Doctor on the Edge" secured a spot in Disney Plus's global top 10 in the TV shows category and concluded its run with episode 12 broadcast on the 7th.
Shin Ye Eun met viewers as Yuk Ha-ri, a bold and warm-hearted nurse who returns to her hometown Pyeondongdo in the drama. Hiding an unknown wound, Yuk Ha-ri faces an existential dilemma on Pyeondongdo and experiences dynamic emotional shifts, which Shin Ye Eun portrayed with solid acting skills and distinctive character interpretation. Covering comedy, romance and the warmth of a medical human drama, Shin Ye Eun once again stamped herself as an irreplaceable actor.
Shin Ye Eun, who played a romantic role opposite Lee Jae-wook in the drama, was asked which of the two men—Do Ji-ui (Lee Jae-wook) and Hyun Chi-yeon (Hong Min-gi)—was her actual ideal type from the love line and chose Hyun Chi-yeon. Shin Ye Eun cited "a stable boyfriend" as the reason she chose Hyun Chi-yeon and said, "When I'm with Chi-yeon, Ha-ri feels more comfortable, and that was really nice."
Another point was the long-distance relationship between Do Ji-ui and Yuk Ha-ri. When asked if a "long-distance" relationship was possible in reality, Shin Ye Eun hesitated briefly and then said, "It's possible." For her, the distance could be not just from Seoul to Geoje Island but even from Korea to Germany. She boasted a different-scale, global view of "long-distance," saying, "Seoul to Geoje Island isn't even a 'long-distance' relationship."
Shin Ye Eun also spoke about her romantic chemistry with Lee Jae-wook. She said, "There were really a lot of ad-libs in the romance scenes. In the scene where we eat chicken and get close, instead of trying to create a deep mood with a mouth greasy with chicken oil and smelling like chicken, I deliberately pushed my lips out more to play it cute and humorous," adding, "The latter half of the scene where I drink and cry while clinging and begging him not to leave was all ad-lib and not in the script."
