Singer KCM's daughter candidly expressed her feelings about the father who hid her.
On the 8th broadcast of KBS2 The Return of SUPERMAN, KCM was shown going on a date with his eldest daughter Suyeon.
That day KCM said, "When my first child was born I was in the military and I had debts bad enough that I couldn't talk about them. I couldn't imagine that this pressure would extend to our family. So I couldn't tell them and I tried to overcome it on my own, and those times of trying to endure alone seemed to have lasted so long," explaining the circumstances for hiding his wife and daughter.
But the more he was able to do well by the second and third children, the more things he felt he hadn't done for the first came to mind. KCM said, "I feel so sorry for things like fathers' sports days or the things I couldn't attend. I couldn't make a lot of the memories that could only have been made then," and added, "I wonder why I lived my life being so cautious about such a nothing. It's not a big deal," conveying his moving feelings.
He then said, "From now on I'll make lots of good memories with the kids," but during a meal alone with his eldest daughter Suyeon, an awkward atmosphere drew attention.
Opening his mouth awkwardly, KCM said, "How's studying? Is it going well? After living I learned studying isn't everything. But it would be good if you do well," continuing with words that lacked substance.
Then he began, "Is this the first time in about 10 years we've come to a restaurant alone? When was it?" and Suyeon answered, "Five, six years old?" KCM said, "I felt like our eldest daughter might recognize me, so it felt like a distant photo. Whenever someone would bring a family photo or something like that, I felt so sorry. Looking back, I think how hard it must have been," he said, sharing his heavy-hearted feelings.
In an interview with the production team, Suyeon spoke about her feelings at the time: "When I was 10 or 9 I would go to my dad and ask every day, 'When will you announce that I'm your daughter?' Because I was young, I wanted the announcement to happen sooner so I could go out with dad. But he told me to wait a little longer, so I kept waiting with the thought that if I waited a bit more it would eventually be announced."
Upon hearing this, Kim Jongmin said, "I felt it all and I knew," expressing regret, and Ralral also said, "Even so, she didn't blame her dad or get angry and grew up so well. I'm proud," showing emotion.
Meanwhile, KCM and his wife Bang Yewon, who is 13 years younger, welcomed their first daughter Suyeon in 2012. But KCM was unable to hold a wedding because of military service and business failure, and they legally became a married couple only after registering their marriage in 2021. After that, KCM had his second daughter Seoyon in 2022, and three years later, in March of last year, he revealed the existence of his wife and two daughters to the public, creating a huge stir. Later that same December he announced the birth of son Haon and received many congratulations.<
