Actor Shin Ye Eun said she received consolation and healing from Yook Ha-ri of Doctor on the Edge.
Shin Ye Eun held a finale interview for the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama 'Doctor on the Edge' (writer Kim Ji-soo, director Lee Myung-woo, planned by KT Studio Genie, produced by The Studio M, original work KakaoPage "Jonbeo Doctor" author Kim Tae-poong) on the 7th at a cafe in Palpan-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Doctor on the Edge is a medical human romance depicting public health doctor Do Ji-ui (Lee Jae-wook), who arrived on the notorious island "Pyeondongdo" that everyone avoids, and the secretive nurse Yook Ha-ri (Shin Ye Eun). Doctor on the Edge, which premiered on the 1st of last month, recorded a 4.0% nationwide rating (Nielsen Korea) and announced a strong start as ENA's highest-rated Monday-Tuesday drama to date. Doctor on the Edge, which reached a peak rating of 5.2% (episode 4), secured a spot in the Disney Plus TV show global top 10 and concluded its run with episode 12 broadcast on the 7th.
Shin Ye Eun met viewers as the bold and kind nurse Yook Ha-ri, who returned to her hometown Pyeondongdo. Yook Ha-ri, who hides wounds unknown to others, faces life dilemmas on Pyeondongdo and experiences dynamic emotional changes, which Shin Ye Eun portrayed with solid acting skills and a distinctive ability to inhabit the character. Covering comedy, romance and the warmth of a medical human drama, Shin Ye Eun once again stamped herself as an irreplaceable actor.
The sync between Shin Ye Eun and Yook Ha-ri was very high. She said, "I think we're similar up to about 90%," then added, "Ha-ri appears to need protection and seems like she cannot be left alone, but in some ways she is strong and spirited. Then at certain moments she is so delicate that she has both strength and weakness that make you want to care for her," and said, "I thought I have many of those traits too, so I related to her a lot."
Although this was Shin Ye Eun's first time showing bright romantic acting in a while, it was not easy even for the bouncy, lovely Shin Ye Eun. Shin Ye Eun said, "It wasn't all comfortable and I worried a lot," and added, "It's a complex emotion of smiling happily but with sadness mixed in. I repeatedly worried that even if it does not show greatly on the screen, I must continually hold the emotion inside. I worried about what the emotion would be even in a simple scene of eating instant noodles."
Regarding Ha-ri's so-called meddling, where she actively intervenes in others' matters, she said, "I think boundaries are something you can break down if they don't harm anyone and are made by yourself," and said, "If you free someone from the confined well and boundaries, Ha-ri's desire to help others even at the cost of her own sacrifice is truly beautiful."
Through the character Yook Ha-ri, Shin Ye Eun also received great comfort. She said, "When this character found relief and healing from pain, I was healed along with her. It gave the message that 'there is a way to solve' each person's difficult situation, and I was healed," expressing her special affection. (End.)
