Group Monsta X member Kihyun presents a song filled with his unique color that no one else can imitate.
Monsta X Kihyun will release the full audio of mini album 2nd 'BORDERLINE' and the music video for the title track 'So Good' on various music sites at 6 p.m. on the 7th.
The new album "BORDERLINE" is an album that captures Kihyun's journey of discovering and walking his own path rather than a predetermined one. The trailers and concept photos released so far sequentially depicted the process of deciding on the journey, standing at the starting line and then finding a new path, conveying the narrative contained in the album. A total of seven tracks were previewed through the tracklist, raising expectations for how Kihyun will complete this story musically.
The title track "So Good" features rising guitar sounds and Kihyun's explosive vocals, and captures the moment of deciding to trust one's own senses and choices in a world that constantly forces the right answer. Through this song, Kihyun will convey a message that long-standing worries and solidly built experience lead to conviction and freedom.
In an interview with OSEN ahead of his solo comeback after about three years and nine months, Kihyun confessed that he changed so much after a long solo hiatus and military service that he has become almost a different person in his late 20s and 30s. He reflected on his past, saying he used to be someone who felt comfortable and obsessive when acting trapped in his own framework with a narrow perspective.
What prompted Kihyun's change was none other than rock music. He said rock music opened him up like a digestive medicine that clears me out. He said that serving in the military with friends 11 years younger than him without feeling out of place led him to adopt a more flexible attitude, and added, after realizing I was trapped in this framework, I like this 30s that I am welcoming and I live very satisfied. I do not want to go back to my 20s.
His philosophy as an artist who avoids musical picky eating could also be seen. Based on rock music and presenting a solo album, Kihyun explained, I intentionally tried not to lose ballads or lyrical elements to prevent being biased only toward rock. He said he sometimes watches sad movies alone at night and cries, and analyzed his own musical balance, saying, by not being picky and consuming various things, I think I developed a healthy musical taste, adding lyrical sensibility to rock's freedom.
This growth led to the ultimate goal as a vocalist. When asked about the final destination he wants to reach, Kihyun emphasized, as the saying goes that the original song shines most when sung by its original performer, my goal is to reach a level where no one can take my song away and my songs shine most when I sing them. He also expressed his aspiration, saying, I want to be a singer who tells stories with songs so that each lyric is absorbed into listeners' hearts and they feel the same emotions when they hear my singing.
There is also great anticipation for the vocal challenge that will unfold with the release of "So Good." Kihyun said, these days there are many people whose skills are outstanding, so I'm not worried, and revealed that seniors at his agency K.WILL and close friend the same age BTOB's Eunkwang participated in the challenge. He said he was inspired by Tablo's stage and proposed the challenge to rapper DinDin, adding, DinDin hyung said he was the first among rappers to be asked and contacted me saying he'll really try hard with ambition, so I'm looking forward to it.
Finally, Kihyun honestly expressed his desire to make his music known to a wider public. He said, apart from commercial success, I hope I can strongly make listeners recognize that "this kind of music is really good." He also said, the goal of this activity is to let many people know that there is someone in Monsta X who, with a solo album, is good at rock music and a good singer. (End.)
