Singer Iru took the stage for the first time in about two years after the drunk driving controversy and broke down in tears as he expressed his sincere feelings toward his mother, who is battling dementia.
On the 6th, TV CHOSUN's Chosun's lover aired a singing contest celebrating the show's fifth anniversary, and Taejin-ah's son Iru took the stage.
Earlier, through the program, Iru had shown his daily life caring for his mother, Ok-gyeong, who has dementia, together with his father Taejin-ah, receiving much support. Jin-ah and Iru took turns caring for her, and Iru naturally continued the caregiving, saying, "Mom, today is bath day." At the time, Iru said in an interview, "I never imagined my mother would get a disease called dementia," and added, "At some point I looked at my father and he had aged a lot. Seeing him stagger, I was terrified thinking he might get hurt too."
He added, "If my mother ever sees this program, I want to say I'm sorry and I love you," and said, "I'm sorry I was born your son. I caused you so much worry. If there is a next life, I want to be born as your son again. See you again, Mom. I love you," and finally shed tears.
That day, Iru passionately sang his signature song 'Black glasses,' which his mother liked. Before the performance he said, "It's been a long time, and I'm especially nervous to sing in front of my father," and added, "Through the program, many people have seen our family's story and sent support and encouragement. I am truly grateful for this program," expressing his sincere feelings.
He then sang Taejin-ah's signature song 'Ok-gyeong,' and Taejin-ah, who was at the judges' table, came up on stage and continued the song with his son. The father-and-son performance moved the audience. After the performance, Iru said, "I'm going straight home," and added that he would return to care for his mother with dementia, making the moment even more poignant.
On a previous broadcast, Iru also revealed that he moved in with his parents to care for his mother. He personally took charge of everything from bathing to daily care and affectionately said, "Mom is the prettiest," which moved viewers' hearts.
Meanwhile, Iru was prosecuted in 2022 on charges including drunk driving and switching drivers, and was sentenced to six months in prison with one year of probation. Afterward he suspended activities and spent time in reflection; on this day, he appeared on the broadcast stage for the first time in about two years to deliver a heartfelt song and family story for his mother.
