The endings for those who opened cafes on Jeju Island were all different.
On the 6th, a notice was posted on Lee Dong-gun's cafe SNS saying, "We thank customers who visited, and as of July 9 we will take time for reorganization."
According to the notice, Lee Dong-gun's cafe will be temporarily closed, and the cafe said, "We sincerely thank everyone who has cherished and visited our store."
Lee Dong-gun opened a cafe in Aewol-eup, Jeju, in April last year, and the process drew attention after being revealed on Lee Sang-min's SNS. Lee Dong-gun later appeared on My Little Old Boy to reveal his transformation into a cafe owner, and he was active in brand operations, including opening a pop-up store in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, to showcase the cafe's signature coffee and desserts.
Around the same time, there were people operating cafes on Jeju Island: Lee Sang Soon and Park Han-Byul.
Lee Sang Soon lived on Jeju Island and opened the cafe Longplay in July 2022, and it was so popular that it operated on a reservation basis because of the enormous waiting lines. Even while operating by reservation, Longplay, which had many regular customers, closed after about two years and is no longer operating.
At the time, Lee Sang Soon cited "the contract period ended" as the reason for the cafe's closure, and explained, "Because I built the Longplay brand, it's always open. If there is a good place and plan somewhere, I feel like I can do it anytime."
Appearing on Kim Na-young's YouTube channel last month, Lee Sang Soon went on a cafe tour in Hannam-dong and mentioned plans to reopen a business. He raised expectations by saying, "I want to make the cafe I ran in Jeju in Seoul. I'm so busy now with radio and other things, so I can't pay attention, but I look little by little. Where would be a good spot, where are young people going these days?"
Meanwhile, Park Han-Byul, who opened a cafe in 2021, has continued operating it for more than about five years. After her husband's alleged involvement in the 'Burning Sun gate,' Park Han-Byul temporarily suspended entertainment industry activities and appeared on TV CHOSUN's "Dad and I" where she said, "I didn't dream of returning. I opened a cafe to find another job," explaining why she opened a cafe on Jeju Island.
Park Han-Byul's cafe, which became a "Jeju hot place" within a year of opening, still maintains its popularity, and recently Park Han-Byul showed affection by posting several photos taken at the cafe on her SNS along with the caption, "It's my cafe but it's insanely pretty, really."
