Singer and musical actress Ok Joo Hyun took a jab at singers who rely on autotune.
On the 6th, an online community post was uploaded containing a message Ok Joo Hyun recently sent through a fan communication platform.
In the post, Ok Joo Hyun said, "These days, no matter how bad someone sings, they do such brutal post-production with autotune that those of us who do full live performances feel bad. This is something singers—colleagues, seniors and juniors—say when we get together."
She said this use of autotune does not end in the recording process. Ok Joo Hyun expressed anger, saying, "You need full live performance for vividness and skill, for recognizing shortcomings and learning and improving. They use autotune so that things that make you think 'that definitely can't be aired' during recordings all get oddly leveled by tuning, and honestly it makes me mad."
Ok Joo Hyun said forcefully, "I don't want to share a table with them," while acknowledging, "It can feel like a very rude remark. But it's true. Watching people do post-production with autotune these days, I really feel like anyone and everyone comes out and sings."
She said the reason for such remarks was, "I don't want to let strange seedlings who think 'even if you're bad at singing you can still have a singing job' grow. You have to cut off the shoots."
