Singer and actor Park Yuchun said he will pay all outstanding tax liabilities within the year.
Recently Park Yuchun said through his agency that the various long-standing lawsuits in Korea have all been concluded.
Park Yuchun had been facing a damage claim lawsuit of about 500 million won filed by his former agency for alleged breach of exclusive contract. In addition, in 2023 he was also listed among high-value, habitual tax delinquents disclosed by the National Tax Service. Park Yuchun has owed taxes in five cases, including capital gains tax, since 2016, and the outstanding amount is about 400 million won.
In this regard the agency said "the various lawsuits in Korea that continued for a long time have been safely concluded," and then outlined plans to pay the taxes.
The agency said "Park Yuchun submitted an installment payment plan to the Korea National Tax Service, and after agreement he has been faithfully making payments according to the submitted installment plan to date. He plans to complete the full payment of taxes during the year," it said.
It added, "Some reports say Park Yuchun has not paid any taxes at all, but in reality payments are being completed according to the installment plan and his name is being removed from the list of high-value delinquents. We will continue to make tax payments according to the installment plan," it said.
Park Yuchun also bowed his head and said through his agency, "I apologize for the worry and inconvenience caused by the long period of trials and tax delinquency in Korea until now. I offer my apology here."
Park Yuchun said, "I am reflecting on past mistakes, learning about life, and repenting. I am still immature and have shortcomings, but I am trying to live the time given to me more valuably."
Meanwhile, controversy erupted when Park Yuchun was indicted in 2019 on charges of using methamphetamine. At the time Park Yuchun pleaded his innocence at an emergency press conference, saying, "If I used drugs I will retire from the entertainment industry," but the police investigation found the drug use charges to be true and he was sentenced to 10 months in prison with a two-year suspension of sentence.
Effectively expelled from Korea's entertainment industry, Park Yuchun continues entertainment activities in Japan.<
