Singer and actor Park Yuchun said he will pay all outstanding tax liabilities within the year.
Recently, Park Yuchun announced through his agency that the various long-running lawsuits in Korea have all been concluded.
Park Yuchun has been involved in a lawsuit seeking about 500 million won in damages filed by his former agency for breach of exclusive contract. Along with this, in 2023 he was also listed on the National Tax Service's list of high-value, habitual tax delinquents. Park Yuchun has been delinquent on a total of five taxes, including capital gains tax, since 2016, and the amount owed is about 400 million won.
In this regard, the agency said that the several domestic lawsuits that had continued for a long time in Korea have been safely concluded, and also outlined plans for tax payment.
The agency said Park Yuchun submitted an installment payment plan to the Korea National Tax Service, and after agreement has been faithfully fulfilling payments according to the submitted installment plan to date. He is expected to complete full payment this year.
It added that some reports conveyed that Park Yuchun has not paid any taxes, but in reality tax payments are being completed according to the installment plan and his name is being removed from the list of major delinquents. It said it will continue to make tax payments according to the installment plan.
Park Yuchun also bowed his head through his agency and apologized, saying he was sorry for the worry and inconvenience caused by the long period of trials and tax delinquency in Korea.
Park Yuchun said he is reflecting on past mistakes and learning about life. He said he is still inexperienced and has shortcomings, but is trying to live the time given to him carefully.
Meanwhile, controversy erupted in 2019 when Park Yuchun was indicted on charges of methamphetamine use. At the time, Park Yuchun pleaded his innocence at an emergency press conference and said that if he had used drugs he would retire from the entertainment industry, but the police investigation found the drug use allegation to be true and he was sentenced to 10 months in prison with a two-year suspended sentence.
Effectively expelled from the domestic entertainment industry, Park Yuchun has continued entertainment activities in Japan.<
