Debate is raging over past actions by an MBC Gyeongnam producer who criticized girl group Lisenne member Wonyi's dialect controversy as an Ilbe expression.
Reactions have been heated day after day over Wonyi of Lisenne saying "musupno" in a recent YouTube content video. The debate over whether it is a regional dialect or an Ilbe expression has not stopped.
Meanwhile, Kim Hyun-ji, a producer at MBC Gyeongnam, viewed this critically. On the 1st she expressed regret on her personal SNS, saying, "I was upset to see a female idol and a PD exchanging 'nono' amicably in a YouTube clip." She pointed out that Wonyi of Lisenne's expression was an Ilbe expression that does not fit Gyeongsang-do speech patterns.
Afterward, angry reactions from some internet users, mainly Lisenne fans, flooded Kim Hyun-ji's SNS. In particular, they pointed out scenes from MBC Gyeongnam's Yap! Vitality heaven, which Kim Hyun-ji participated in in the past, where Yeongnam regional dialects were shown in subtitles.
In fact, in Yap! Vitality heaven, subtitles such as "mwolahano?", "where would you have had time to hear such words in the old days?", and "what sin did that child commit to come like this?" appeared. A dialect similar in context to Wonyi of Lisenne's "musupno" naturally appeared as a regional dialect.
Nevertheless, Kim Hyun-ji's reaction did not change significantly. She reiterated her regret, saying, "I cannot close the gate of hell I opened myself. I confirmed once again that SNS is not a suitable means for debate."
She also said, "This is not a problem that can be resolved overnight. It took a long time to remove remnants of the Japanese language," and emphasized, "Still, I hope it leaves people with concern rather than anger. Rather than distinguishing which '-no' it is, if someone is hurt by that word, can't we at least hesitate briefly before using it?"
Above all, she added, "In the end it is about choice and attitude. Those who send me messages that start with insults and end with '-no' should look again at what their words are proving," critiquing the use of '-no' as no longer merely a regional dialect but a usage tainted as an Ilbe expression.
Wonyi of Lisenne has been called the "Geoje girl" and recently caused such a strong reaction that she became a hot topic. A single dialectal phrase of hers continues to carry ripple effects and leaves implications.
