Actor Ji Jin-hee revealed the heartbreaking story of suddenly being removed from a leading role during his rookie days.
On the 6th the YouTube channel 'Zzanbro Shin Dong-yeob' released a video titled 'Hong Seok-cheon Ji Jin-hee [Zzanbro EP.152] Korea's top two top gays and gay president.'
That day Ji Jin-hee cited being forced to leave a drama as the most difficult memory from his rookie days. He opened up, "For a rookie, landing the lead in a drama was like plucking a star from the sky. I was lucky to become the lead and was so excited that I boasted to my family."
But the joy did not last long. Ji Jin-hee calmly recounted, "We had filmed up to episode 2 when suddenly I was removed from the lead." He continued, "During the process of replacing the female lead, a male actor from the same agency as the newly joined actress was cast as the lead. At the time such things happened in the drama industry," he explained the situation then.
He recalled the moment he was told to leave by the director. Ji Jin-hee said, "The director called my manager and me aside and apologized," and added, "My manager said, 'No. A rookie should not lose the lead opportunity,' and persuaded them to the end, but in the end it could not be changed." He went on, "While struggling, my manager smoked more than a pack of cigarettes. Eventually he said, 'Let's give up.'" He shared the bitter memory, "The two of us drank soju from daytime."
The thing that hurt the most was his family. Ji Jin-hee said, "Even when I went home I could not bring myself to tell my parents that I had been cut," and added, "My mother kept asking, 'Did the filming go well?' and I lied for two to three months." He recalled, "As the broadcast day of the drama approached my mother was so happy. Only then did I tell her the truth, and I felt her turn away and cry. That sight was so heartbreaking."
He calmly said, "Ironically, that work later became a hugely successful famous drama," adding, "Now it's a memory I can talk about with a smile."
