Actor Lee Dong-ha is captivating viewers with an impressive poker face performance in Manager Kim.
Manager Kim, which premiered on the 26th of last month as an SBS Friday-Saturday drama (written by Nam Dae-joong, directed by Lee Seung-young·Lee So-eun, planned by Studio S, produced by Studio S·Fantagio), is a revenge action drama in the dad universe about the "most ordinary" father who becomes the "most dangerous" man to get back his only daughter.
Riding a fast track to popularity with bold direction and narrative, Lee Dong-ha in the work showed limitless character versatility as Manager Kim and etched the character Nam chief into viewers' minds.
Lee Dong-ha played Nam chief, the chief secretary to Joo Kang-chan (played by Joo Sang-Wook), the CEO of Joo Hak Construction, perfectly fulfilling the loyal right-hand role. In the last episode, when Geum-ibal (played by Jo Bokrae) swaggered in looking for Joo Kang-chan, Nam chief immediately subdued him with a cold stare, leading to a tense standoff.
In fact, in the past Nam chief carried out a brutal torture in which he pulled out all of Geum-ibal's teeth for not obeying Joo Kang-chan. Standing beside the mangled Geum-ibal and murmuring, "Do you feel like wagging your tail now? There are ways to pour boiling water down the throat so they can't bark," Nam chief's appearance showed blind loyalty and cruelty without restraint, chilling viewers to the bone.
Especially striking is Lee Dong-ha's acting, which raises immersion in Manager Kim by showing Nam chief's cruel nature through emotionless poker face actions. A point to watch is how much frustration Lee Dong-ha's forthcoming "villain accomplice" performance will bring to viewers.
Meanwhile, Manager Kim, in which Lee Dong-ha appears, airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 p.m. on SBS.<
