It has already been 11 years since actor the late Han Kyung-sun, who played a reliable supporting role in living-room dramas, passed away.
The late Han Kyung-sun was diagnosed with a cerebral hemorrhage on July 4, 2015, and while receiving treatment unconscious in the intensive care unit, she ultimately passed away. She was 53. As another anniversary approaches this summer, many people still mourn the late actor's warm smile and exceptional passion for acting and offer their condolences.
Born in 1963, the late actor began her acting career after debuting as part of the 1989 KBS open recruitment class 10. She later won great affection with a broad acting spectrum across genres, from the rural serial Daechunamu sarang geollyeotne to the children's drama Yeojeong Commi and the historical dramas Jumong and Dae Joyeong.
In addition, she left a deep impression on viewers by delivering distinctive supporting performances in dozens of major works such as Dalbit gajok, Yamangui sewol, Moraesigye, Gwanggaeto the Great, Giant, Ruby Ring, and Cuckoo's Nest.
The tragic news came suddenly while she was in the midst of filming a drama. On June 19, 2015, after finishing filming and a dinner for the MBC daily drama The Great Jangok, the late actor felt unwell on her way home and went to a hospital. Recalling that time, fellow actor Kim Yoon-kyung said, "It was a dinner that day, and she kept saying her head hurt and hit her head with her fist. It seems one side was already paralyzed then," adding to the sorrow.
Recovering without surgery, the late actor collapsed again on June 30 and lost consciousness, and was diagnosed with a cerebral hemorrhage. She briefly regained consciousness on July 1 but fell into an unconscious state again and, after a desperate fight, passed away three days later.
Colleagues who stayed by her bedside until the last moment conveyed the late actor's tearful dedication to acting. A fellow actor said, "When she briefly got up in the intensive care unit, she asked why she was there and looked for the script saying she had to film," conveying the late actor's sky-high passion that longed for the camera until the end, leaving living-room audiences moved.
In life, the late actor was a figure who brightened those around her with a warm nature and good deeds as much as with her acting. After experiencing severe depression due to a failed plastic surgery in the past, she began volunteer work helping people with disabilities as part of her recovery.
Thereafter she secretly helped production staff and neighbors who were financially struggling, and she faithfully attended neighborhood senior gatherings, taking care of neighbors and building deep ties with the local community.
At the funeral, actor Park Joon-geum could not finish her sentence, saying, "Go there and don't be in pain…," and Yoon Hae-young wept, saying, "She was someone who always gave generously to everyone." Kim Yoon-kyung also cried, saying, "I always told my sister she was an angel alive, but I always just received."
The late actor's remains are interred at a location in Seoul.
