Singer G-Dragon was appointed as an ambassador for the 48th UNESCO World Heritage Committee, which will be held in Busan on the 19th.
On the 3rd Korea Heritage Service said it had appointed G-Dragon as an ambassador for the 48th UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
Korea Heritage Service said of G-Dragon, "As an artist who has exerted global influence across the arts beyond K-pop and has led efforts to solve social problems and spread public-interest culture through art," and "the best partner to inform the world about the significance of the World Heritage Committee, which is being held in Korea for the first time."
In 2024, G-Dragon established the public corporation Just Peace Foundation through a copyright donation and has served as honorary chairman, leading efforts to solve social problems and spread public-interest culture based on the arts.
As an ambassador, G-Dragon will participate in a promotional video for a citizen participation campaign to protect world heritage and in on-site events, and the Just Peace Foundation will, on the 10th, in cooperation with UNESCO, present the urban campaign "Heritage in Peace," through which citizens, corporations, and cities can participate together in protecting world heritage.
Donations raised through the campaign will be delivered to the UNESCO World Heritage Fund and used to protect world heritage from war, the climate crisis, natural disasters and other threats.
G-Dragon's side said, "I am very honored to serve as an ambassador for the UNESCO World Heritage Committee, which is being held in Korea for the first time," and "because world heritage is a shared asset that all humanity must protect, I want to deliver a message of peace that many people can empathize with and act on together."
A Korea Heritage Service official said, "We expect that domestic and international interest in and citizen participation with the World Heritage Committee will further expand with G-Dragon, who has global influence, and the Just Peace Foundation joining us," and "we will do our best to ensure that Korea's first World Heritage Committee can serve as an opportunity to create a new culture of participation in protecting world heritage."
