'Undercover Chef' Sam Kim faces the worst-case scenario of having all the fresh pasta he made disposed of.
On the 28th, the second episode of tvN's Undercover Chef (directed by Hong Jin-joo) will reveal the tearful survival strategies and an unimaginably intense first service of Sam Kim, Jeong Ji-seon and Kwon Seong-jun, who secretly took jobs abroad as the youngest kitchen staff.
In the earlier first episode, Sam Kim, Jeong Ji-seon and Kwon Seong-jun, who each pretended to be a former farmer, boxer and baseball player, respectively, spent a brutal first day demoted to kitchen privates, delivering more thrill than a genre film.
In episode two, the three veterans who know the workings of a kitchen better than anyone will activate full-fledged "youngest-staff survival skills" to survive, and as they enter the kitchen's flower and battlefield—the "first service"—they are expected to deliver even more thrilling entertainment.
That's where a crisis occurs. A problem arose for Sam Kim, who infiltrated as the youngest staff at a more than 100-year-old traditional Italian restaurant in Parma. Amid the flood of orders, he becomes confused by an unfamiliar kitchen environment and an onslaught of information.
After many twists and turns, he earns the solo opportunity to make the restaurant's top signature dish, the fresh pasta "tortelli," and steels himself, but the supervisor firmly decides it cannot be served to customers and all the fresh pasta he made is discarded.
Sam Kim repeatedly blushes and apologizes, saying "I'm sorry," but at that moment the owner delivers "a word" through a translator. Curiosity continues over the incident in the kitchen that ultimately made Sam Kim smile.
The producers said the real struggle begins as Korea's top chefs confront the duties of the long-neglected "kitchen youngest" and the ruthless time attacks of native kitchens, adding, "In half a day, they face an enormous amount of culinary data and local hazing; whether they can prove their skills and succeed in the new menu launch mission in five days is like a drama, so please look forward to this survival tale."
Meanwhile, tvN's Undercover Chef airs today (the 28th) at 8:40 p.m.
