Yurisa from Netflix's The Risk Takers season 2 completed a chilling miraculous comeback against IVE's Gaeul to clinch a semifinal ticket.
In episode 6 of Netflix variety show The Risk Takers: The Last Winner (released every Wednesday at 5 p.m.), which was released on the 27th, the second match of the much-anticipated top 6 round featured a bloody 1-on-1 death match between IVE's Gaeul and Yurisa, a Mensa member with an IQ of 156. After Hong Jin-ho's shocking elimination shook up the game, the two female players' high-level psychological warfare and fierce strategic battle fully engrossed viewers at home.
Gaeul emerged in season 1 as a rising force in The Risk Takers, defeating formidable brains to record two wins. From the start she declared I will go all the way to the final victory, showing fierce determination, and Yurisa praised her as a strong player with a high understanding of the game, creating tense anticipation.
The game they faced was Forgetfulness Mine 2, an expansion of season 1's Forgetfulness Mine. With the timed bomb variable added to the existing rules, a more sophisticated game of wits was required.
Master Jang Dong-min, watching this, said it was like studying every prep book and then taking the college entrance exam only to find upgraded questions, analyzing that the contest was a showdown of masters where how they use the changed rules is the key, raising expectations.
The two players' strategies diverged sharply from the start. Gaeul chose stable play by dispersing mines around the treasure, while Yurisa engaged in psychological warfare with an all-in strategy of concentrating mines in a specific area. Jang Dong-min likened it to diversified investment versus going all in, adding interest.
The early part of the match was Gaeul's solo stage. She dodged Yurisa's minefield like a ghost and obtained the treasure, gaining complete superiority. What seemed destined to end in a one-sided defeat shook at the last moment when Gaeul, rushing toward the final treasure, stepped on consecutive mines and made a fatal mistake.
Seizing the opportunity, Yurisa fiercely pressed and ultimately secured a dramatic comeback victory. Commentator Jang Dong-min, watching the broadcast, could not hide his excitement, saying it's not over until it's over.
Yurisa, who survived miraculously, said her heart was tight and she almost forfeited, noting that the initially targeted strategy worked and allowed her to turn the game around, and the sadly defeated Gaeul said it was a very satisfying match and expressed hope that since Yurisa beat her she would go on to win the championship, showing the dignified demeanor of a gracious loser and creating a heartwarming moment.
At the end of the broadcast another big match was teased. DinDin, who created an upset in season 1 by defeating KAIST alumnus Heo Seong-beom, will stage a revenge match once again.
When Heo Seong-beom said he began studying survival after losing to his brother, sharpening his blade, DinDin responded with his characteristic cheeky provocation, Are you going to lose again?, exploding curiosity about the next episode. Attention is focused on who will be the one to board the last bus to the semifinals after Park Sung-woong and Yurisa.
