(Continuing from interview ③) Actor Park Hae-soo spoke about his personal experience participating in the singing of the Scarecrow OST.
On the 26th at the BH Entertainment building in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, a wrap-up interview was held with Park Hae-soo, the lead actor of ENA's Monday-Tuesday drama Scarecrow.
Scarecrow is a crime investigation thriller set in the strongman era of 1988, in which a detective investigating a series of murders forms an unexpected cooperative relationship with a man he despised, unfolding the case.
Previously, Park Hae-soo and Kwak Sun-young, who starred in Scarecrow, personally participated in singing the OST Forgetting, increasing immersion in the work. Regarding this, Park Hae-soo said, "We released the track. People around me have been putting it on repeat," relaying the recent status of acquaintances who are streaming the track.
He confessed with a laugh, "A few days ago friends called and said, 'Buy us a drink sometime.' They said they turned the sound off and put the track on repeat. I told them not to, but they said they set it to repeat."
When asked, "Do you want to be on the Top 100 or the Hot 100?" he joked, "Shouldn't we at least get on that list? Together with Sun-young."
When asked how he came to participate in the OST for the first time, Park Hae-soo said, "The director offered it to me. He played a song called Forgetting, and I liked it a lot. The story about the young people of that time was very heartbreaking. The director seemed to be considering it as an OST, and when he mentioned it to me I asked, 'Me? Do actors usually do that?' I asked if a protagonist's own song can be used while they are acting, and he said if it's made well it's fine. I thought it would be an honor to do it, but I hoped not to be a distraction. I wanted to do it without technique so that the viewers could focus on the footage."
He continued, "Actually, Jung Moon-sung hyung and Lee Hee-joon hyung sing well, and senior Baek Hyun-jin also sings well, but wouldn't it be strange for those people to sing the OST? It would be odd for it to appear in their own stories. Wouldn't it be ironic if the real culprit Jung Moon-sung hyung sang it? So inevitably I ended up doing it. Actress Kwak Sun-young was already assigned because she sings so well. I practiced continuously."
When asked if he was conscious of singing the same song as Kwak Sun-young, Park Hae-soo said, "I was a lot. So my accompaniment is guitar and Kwak Sun-young's is piano. The accompaniments are different. I was trying to approach it as a kind of folk song, but I don't know why I get embarrassed whenever the OST is mentioned. Even though we released the track."
Asked about competitiveness over music chart rankings, he replied, "None. I'll accept it humbly," and when asked whether he would participate if asked to sing an OST for another work in the future, he raised expectations by saying, "I'd definitely do it. I don't know if it would be used well, though."
