As the person who raised allegations about actor Kim Soo-hyun's private life has been detained, attention is turning to the fate of the Disney+ series "Knock-Off," whose release had been put on hold.
Gold Medalist issued a statement on the 27th announcing that an arrest warrant had been issued for the person who earlier raised allegations about Kim Soo-hyun and the late Kim Sae-ron's private life.
In the statement, Kim Soo-hyun's side said, "The deceased's messenger conversations were forged and altered from conversations with a person unrelated to Kim Soo-hyun," and said that the audio file claimed to be the deceased's voice was also "confirmed to be manipulated material generated using AI technology."
Accordingly, the court issued an arrest warrant for the person who raised the allegations, recognizing the gravity of the matter and the charges including violation of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection (defamation by spreading false information), violation of the Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes, violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (distribution of recordings using cameras and coercion to use recordings), and threats, among other charges.
Earlier, since March last year Kim Soo-hyun was accused by the bereaved family of Kim Sae-ron of having dated the deceased when she was a minor, leading to allegations of "grooming." Afterwards, the bereaved family released text messages, recordings and letters they said were the deceased's records and harshly criticized Kim Soo-hyun.
However, Kim Soo-hyun denied that he dated the deceased while she was a minor, saying that although he had been the deceased's partner while she was alive, they dated after she became an adult and the allegations about dating during her minority were groundless. Above all, he claimed the released materials were manipulated and filed a complaint against the bereaved family and the person who first raised the allegations for defamation by spreading false information, among other charges.
About a year later the possibility that the related materials were manipulated surfaced, and detention of the person who first raised the allegations proceeded. Attention turned to Kim Soo-hyun's moves, who had halted activities amid the controversy.
Meanwhile, the Disney+ original series "Knock-Off," which had been anticipated as Kim Soo-hyun's next project, has also drawn intense interest. "Knock-Off" was expected as Kim Soo-hyun's next work after the drama "Queen of Tears," which enjoyed great popularity, and was a highly anticipated title for Disney+.
However, the release schedule was put entirely on hold because of lead actor Kim Soo-hyun's private life controversy. As signs emerge that Kim Soo-hyun's private life controversy that led to the work's release being put on hold may be resolved, the possibility of the work's release coming back to the surface has increased.
As of the 27th, no decision has been made on whether to release "Knock-Off." A Disney+ official told OSEN, "There has been no change from our previous position so far," and declined to comment further.
