Former group MBLAQ member Mir explained the controversy over how he addressed his mother-in-law.
On the 27th, a video was posted on the YouTube channel Bangga-ne with the caption "I will speak about the controversial parts."
Earlier, in a video uploaded on the 24th, Mir repeatedly referred to his mother-in-law, saying "our mother-in-law had herbal medicine made for me because I was having a hard time" and "our mother-in-law earns a lot of money," and some internet users expressed discomfort about the form of address and engaged in heated debate. Eventually Mir deleted the video.
Regarding this, Mir, who posted the explanatory video, admitted his fault, saying, "While doing YouTube, I really received a lot of criticism: I was criticized for gaining weight, criticized when I shaved my head, and criticized when I got tattoos. I wondered whether those were things I should be criticized for, but this is something I should be scolded for."
He continued, "I took down the video, but I will explain," and said, "I don't call my mother-in-law 'mother-in-law' or my father-in-law 'father-in-law.' Since we were so close from when we were dating, what I call them is 'mother,' 'father,' or I call them by their names. My mother-in-law and father-in-law really like that. My father would tell me that whenever he drank. He said he was so happy when I called him 'hyung' and that he felt like a son."
Mir also reflected, "While filming the video, saying 'mother~' to my wife's mother felt a bit awkward, and I should have said 'mother-in-law,' but I ended up saying 'mother-in-law' in a casual way. I should be scolded for that. So I took the video down."
Next to him, Go Eun-ah appealed, "But Cheol-yong (Mir) was very stressed by this. Anyway, everyone lives in different environments and family atmospheres are different. Please don't be too harsh about it."
