Actor Lee Heejun shared the behind-the-scenes story of the real culprit's voice in "Scarecrow."
Recently, at the BH Entertainment building in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul, a wrap-up interview was held with Lee Heejun, the lead actor of ENA's Monday-Tuesday drama "Scarecrow."
"Scarecrow" is a crime investigation thriller set in 1988 Gangseong about a detective investigating the real perpetrator of a serial murder case who unexpectedly forms a cooperative relationship with a man he despised.
In the work, Lee Heejun played prosecutor Cha Si-young of the Gangseong branch of Muwon District Prosecutors' Office. In particular, before the face of the real culprit Lee Yong-woo (played by Jung Moon-sung) was revealed, Cha Si-young was suspected of being the real culprit based on the fact that his voice was similar to Lee Heejun's.
When asked whether he had performed the real culprit's voice to confuse viewers, Lee Heejun said, "It wasn't me; we hired an AI voice specialist company and, at the beginning, met with the actors and recorded voices. We also studied how we could use the data in the drama," drawing attention.
He explained, "For the parts where physical labor was being acted out, we couldn't directly use it. Applying that sound felt awkward, so we prepared and performed the physical labor acting ourselves, which felt more natural. Instead, in scenes where Jung Moon-sung's face didn't appear, because Moon-sung acted and we put about 60–70% of my voice characteristics in, that result came out. To make people suspicious at first, when the face didn't appear we included my voice and the voices of other suspicious suspects and subtly, delicately touched those parts."
He added, "It was meticulously designed so that in every episode, viewers could say, 'That's the person!' until Jung Moon-sung's appearance. When colleagues, viewers, my family or friends called and asked, 'Who is the culprit?' I thought, 'It's going as intended,'" expressing pride. (Continued in interview 2.)<
