Actor Shin Ye Eun pledged a promise for Doctor on the Edge.
On the 26th, at The Saint in Sindorim-dong, Guro-gu, Seoul, a production presentation was held for ENA's new Monday-Tuesday drama Doctor on the Edge (writer Kim Ji-su, director Lee Myung-woo, planned by KT Studio Genie, produced by The Studio M).
Doctor on the Edge is a medical human romance depicting public health doctor Do Ji-ui (Lee Jae-wook), who arrives on the notoriously avoided island Pyeondongdo, and nurse Yook Ha-ri (Shin Ye Eun), who has many secrets. Based on the webtoon Jonbeo Doctor (author Kim Tae-poong), which is being serialized with popularity on KakaoPage and Kakao Webtoon, the drama Doctor on the Edge raises expectations for what new thrills and emotional lines director Lee Myung-woo—known for his distinctive rhythmic direction and sense of humor in Boyhood and The Fiery Priest—will create when he meets the romance genre.
Director Lee Myung-woo said he felt pressure about presenting a follow-up to a previous work that did very well, but that it was not the time to hold onto that and that he made the project with his best effort. He added that it would be finished sometime this week and that he hoped this carefully made work would be remembered as a meaningful piece. He said he would wait for June 1 with the heart of a newlywed.
He continued, saying he had cried the most while working on this project among the many works he has directed so far—while filming, editing and in postproduction—unable to hold back the tears. He said he believes the focus is on growth and empathy and that this drama is entirely different in tone from Scarecrow and that he hoped audiences would feel the healing.
Lee Jae-wook, who could not attend the production presentation because he enlisted to fulfill his defense duty, said via video, I really want to attend the production presentation, but I am fulfilling my defense duty, so I greet you by video. He asked, Is our partner Hari doing well? and said he came to the production presentation and wanted to say thank you with this video and that he wanted to express gratitude to all the actors.
Shin Ye Eun said they had discussed many times beforehand the possibility that Lee Jae-wook would not be able to attend the production presentation and had felt regretful. She said that if they get good results they will go visit him together and will go and prove it.
Meanwhile, ENA's new Monday-Tuesday drama Doctor on the Edge will premiere on ENA at 10 p.m. on June 1 and will also be available on KT Jini TV and Disney Plus.
