Actor Park Ji-hyun expressed anticipation for Wild Sing.
On the 26th in the afternoon at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, an interview with actor Park Ji-hyun for the film Wild Sing (director Son Jae-gon) took place.
Wild Sing is a comedy film about a three-member mixed group, Triangle, that once swept the music scene but disbanded overnight after becoming embroiled in an unexpected incident, and now makes a reckless attempt to seize a comeback opportunity that comes on June 3.
Park Ji-hyun plays Byeon Do-mi, who shows a fresh and vivacious charm on stage but behind the stage dominates the waiting room with rough talk and a tough presence as the group's powerhouse and main vocal. After retiring, she became the daughter-in-law of a chaebol family and was living elegantly, but when she is asked to join Triangle's reunion performance, she embarks on a glamorous act of rebellion.
Originally the role was first offered to another actor before Park Ji-hyun ultimately took the part. Asked if she felt any pressure, she said, "Rather than feeling pressured because other actors were cast, I felt pressure because it was a character I hadn't tried before. The lineup of seniors was so dazzling that I worried I might be a burden when acting with them."
She added, "From the moment the director cast me, he said he believed he saw my inherent side from the content I had appeared in or on YouTube. When I read the script, I was convinced that there would clearly be various aspects when portraying the character Domi, so I felt more excitement than worry."
Domi was a character with a surprising charm whose life in her 20s and 40s were completely different. She explained, "This time Domi seemed like a somewhat different chaebol daughter-in-law. That was also interesting. Just because someone is a daughter-in-law in a chaebol family doesn't mean they all have the same tendencies or temperament, and that point was interesting in the script."
She continued, "She is full of desire for wealth or honor, but her inherent desires are something else. She is dual and also frank, and I thought that was interesting. When expressing that, I tried to show a pleasant and comical side," and regarding meeting Park Haemee, who plays the mother-in-law, she said, "I met her once at the script reading, but I didn't see her during filming. I acted while looking at a blue screen."
Asked what position she would have if she were an idol, Park Ji-hyun modestly said, "I don't think I would be good at either vocals or dance. It wasn't an easy task," and added, "Both led me so well that I think I was able to do it, but I don't think I have any innate part in either."
Park Ji-hyun expressed an intention to try rapping, saying, "I think it might actually be better if I were on the rapper side. I haven't tried rap, so at least I know I don't have talent for dance and singing. I'm thinking it might be good to try rap, which I haven't challenged yet, and then judge."
Park Ji-hyun will appear on You Quiz on the 27th and also confessed about her father's battle with illness. She said, "Senior Yu Jae-seok led the show so comfortably. I'm the kind of person who doesn't speak articulately, so I was very nervous and was afraid to go on a talk show, but senior led it well so I felt comfortable. The father story came up while talking about dramas, and since it is now something of the past, I think I just talked about it comfortably."
When asked about Wild Sing's unique fun points, Park Ji-hyun said with confidence, "I think deliberately trying to be funny is the funniest. This is not a film that makes you chuckle quietly; I'm convinced the director deliberately made it to be funny. So I think even if people come expecting a laugh, they will probably leave laughing out loud."
Meanwhile, the film Wild Sing, featuring Park Ji-hyun, opens on June 3.
