After completing their military hiatus and returning as a full group, BTS will appear at the American Music Awards (American Music Awards, hereinafter AMA), one of the three major U.S. music awards, for the first time in five years. Attention is focused on whether they can win the award for the second time overall.
BTS will attend the AMA, held at 5 p.m. local time on the 25th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, USA. This is the first time in five years that they have physically attended the awards ceremony since 2021, when they became the first Korean singer to win the top award.
The AMA is a prestigious stage considered one of the three major U.S. music awards alongside the Grammy Awards and the Billboard Music Awards. At this ceremony, BTS was nominated in three categories, including Artist of the Year, which corresponds to the top award, best male K-pop artist, and song of the summer.
In particular, in the Artist of the Year category they will face fierce competition shoulder to shoulder with global pop stars such as Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga and Bad Bunny.
BTS made a comeback last month with their fifth studio album, Arirang (ARIRANG), their first in about three years and nine months. With all members having completed their military service and returning as a full group, they are reaffirming their strong influence in the global music market. The title track, "Swim" (SWIM), was nominated for song of the summer less than a month after its release, proving its overwhelming buzz.
So far BTS has taken home a total of 12 trophies from the AMA across group and solo activities. Starting with favorite social artist in 2018, they set a record of winning for three consecutive years, and they have shown their presence in major categories such as tour of the year and favorite duo/group. In particular, they hold the record for the most wins in the pop duo/group category, winning four consecutive years.
Standing again at the AMA for the first time in five years, expectations are building over whether BTS will once again hold the top award trophy and reaffirm their status as a global top artist.
