'Scarecrow' is nearing its finale, and Park Hae-soo continued to pursue the truth.
On the 25th, the ENA Monday-Tuesday drama 'Scarecrow' episode 11 depicted the "present in 2019" of those who had lived for 30 years with memories of the Gangseong serial murders. Kang Tae-Ju (played by Park Hae-soo) decided to correct the distorted truth of the '1988 past' stained by lies and corruption, and became entangled in an unexpected misunderstanding with Cha Young-beom (played by Song Geon-hee), the son of his sister Kang Soon-young (played by Do Ji-won), who had cut ties with the family and lived apart.
Thanks to this dramatic development, Scarecrow episode 11 recorded nationwide 7.4% and Seoul metropolitan area 7.2% ratings based on Nielsen Korea paid households, with a nationwide peak minute rating of 7.8%. The 20-49 target rating peaked at 2.8% per minute, placing it first in its time slot.
The real perpetrator of the serial murders, Lee Yong-woo (played by Jung Moon-sung), confessed to the seventh case, and Kang Tae-Ju went to apologize belatedly to Im Seok-man (played by Jeon Seok-chan), who had been falsely accused instead. He had already served 20 years and lived being pointed at as a murderer, but Kang Tae-Ju planned a retrial, saying everything must be corrected even now.
At the time, Jang Myung-do (played by Jeon Jae-hong) and Do Hyeong-gu (played by Kim Eun-woo), who pushed ahead with illegal investigations, retired upon reaching the mandatory retirement age, and Cha Si-young and Park Dae-ho (played by Park Won-sang) became a member of the National Assembly and commissioner of the Korean National Police Agency, respectively. Even the defense lawyer Cha Yeon-ho (played by Lee Min-ki) worried that even with Lee Yong-woo's testimony, if they denied the charges the trial could become difficult.
Eventually Kang Tae-Ju went to see Cha Si-young. It was a reunion after 30 years, but tension was palpable. Especially upon hearing that the real perpetrator of the Gangseong serial murders, Lee Yong-woo, had confessed to both the Im Seok-man case and the Yoon Hye-jin (played by Lee Ah-rin) case, Cha Si-young froze. Kang Tae-Ju revealed why he had come, saying, "Now it's your turn to reveal the truth."
At that moment, a young man who called Cha Si-young 'uncle' appeared. Seeing a face that looked exactly like the late Lee Ki-beom (played by Song Geon-hee), Kang Tae-Ju immediately realized he was his sister's son. Thirty years earlier, Kang Tae-Ju had followed Cha Moo-jin's (played by Yoo Seung-mok) orders to leave Gangseong forever to save his sister, who nearly died in a car accident, and afterward his sister Kang Soon-young lived as 'Cha Soon-young' and her son lived as 'Cha Young-beom.'
Cha Young-beom was working as an intern reporter at an alternative media outlet with Seo Ji-won (played by Kwak Sun-young). Seo Ji-won was shocked to learn that the serial killer captured after 30 years, Lee Yong-woo, was their friend Lee Ki-hwan (played by Jung Moon-sung). But she and Cha Young-beom soon began to dig into the Gangseong serial murder cases again.
Meanwhile, during reporting, Cha Young-beom learned from Im Seok-man that his biological father Lee Ki-beom (played by Song Geon-hee) had also been a victim of brutal treatment and was outraged. Especially after learning that the perpetrator 'Mr. Kang' named in the newspaper article was Kang Tae-Ju, he vowed to clear his father's injustice. In this context, Cha Soon-young pleaded with Kang Tae-Ju to cover up Cha Si-young's matters so her son would not suffer greater wounds, evoking sympathy.
On the other hand, Cha Si-young tried to portray Lee Yong-woo's confession as false. Ultimately, only Lee Yong-woo remained who could reveal the truth of the case from 30 years ago. As Scarecrow ends today (the 26th) with episode 12 (the finale), attention is focused on what conclusion the truth battle between Kang Tae-Ju and Cha Si-young will reach.
