Rising comedian Lee Suji's father-in-law has passed away.
On May 25, a representative of her agency, CPN Entertainment, told OSEN, "Lee Suji's father-in-law passed away today (25th)," in an official statement.
According to the agency, Lee Suji's father-in-law died of a chronic illness around 6 a.m. that day. The funeral wake has been set up in Room 1 of the Gurye County Forest Association Funeral Hall in South Jeolla Province. The funeral will be held on May 27. The burial site is the family grave in Gurye-eup.
Regarding this, the agency added, "We ask for warm condolences and sympathy for Lee Suji and the bereaved family. We respectfully pray for the deceased's soul."
Lee Suji, who debuted in 2012 as a 27th-term KBS open-recruit comedian, received praise for her outstanding character portrayals on numerous comedy and variety programs, including KBS 2TV's Gag Concert. Riding that momentum, she recently won the female variety performer award at the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards.
At the time, Lee Suji mentioned her father-in-law in her acceptance speech. She said, "My father-in-law is very ill. I hope he watches the broadcast and smiles." Her father-in-law's eventual passing after seeing her win has added to the sorrow.
Lee Suji married a non-celebrity husband who is three years her junior in 2018. The couple has a son and built a family.
