Beartooth vocalist Caleb Shomo came out after 14 years of marriage.
Caleb Shomo said on social media on the 2nd (local time), "With recent speculation about my private life increasing, I wanted to be honest before it affected the people I love any more," and confessed, "I am a proud gay man."
He said, "I have long gone through the process of accepting my sexual identity," and added, "The years I spent suppressing it were very difficult." He continued, "For 10 years I buried my feelings with alcohol, but by putting that down and trying to understand myself, I finally began the path to accepting myself."
He also said, "From now on I will live honestly in my music, lyrics and the way I express myself," and emphasized, "This is an important step in the journey to finding true self-love."
Caleb Shomo sent a message of support to fans, saying, "I hope those who are struggling with who they are will be gentle with themselves and be honest."
His wife, Fleur Shomo, also spoke about her feelings. She said, "The past few months have been very confusing and difficult," but added, "My desire to love and support my husband has not changed."
However, she expressed mixed feelings, saying, "Supporting him while also experiencing the feeling of losing everything is very hard," and added, "Our 14 years of marriage were a precious time full of love and memories. Now that chapter has ended."
The two married in 2012 and have no children.
