After ending their military hiatus, the complete group BTS is set to appear at the American Music Awards (American Music Awards, hereafter "AMA") in the United States for the first time in five years. All eyes around the world are on whether they will win the top award for the second time overall.
BTS will attend the AMA held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas at 5 p.m. on the 25th (local time). This will be the first time in about five years since they personally attended the AMA, when they became the first Korean artist to win the top award in 2021.
The AMA is an American popular music awards show and is considered one of the three major U.S. music awards along with the Billboard Music Awards and the Grammy Awards.
At the ceremony, BTS is nominated for "Artist of the Year," the top award, as well as "Best male K-pop artist" and "Song of the summer," and they will once again challenge for the highest honor, the top award.
With this, BTS will compete for Artist of the Year against heavyweight stars leading the global pop market such as Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, Lady Gaga, and Bad Bunny.
BTS made a comeback last month with their fifth studio album Arirang after 3 years and 9 months and returned as a full group after all members completed their military service. The title track of Arirang, "Swim (SWIM)," was nominated for Song of the Summer, and after its release on March 20, it demonstrated overwhelming momentum by being nominated in less than a month (April 14).
So far, BTS has received a total of 12 trophies at the AMA across group and solo categories. Starting with their first trophy in 2018 for Favorite social artist, they swept that category for three consecutive years and set major records in categories such as Tour of the Year and Favorite duo or group.
In particular, in the pop duo/group category they have been No. 1 for four consecutive years, making them the artists with the most wins in that category's history. In 2022 they became the inaugural winners of Favorite K-pop artist, and in 2025 member RM won that category as a solo artist.
Expectations are rising over whether BTS will once again win the top award and celebrate at the AMA, which they are attending for the first time in five years.
