Actor Song Il-gook shared an update on the puberty of the nation's nephews, the triplets who are now in second year of middle school.
On the 23rd, aired on MBN 'Kim Ju-ha's Day & Night', Song Il-gook said, "Not one, not two, but all three are in second year of middle school, so the household is walking on thin ice," saying the triplets are currently going through turbulent adolescent years and do not like having their stories broadcast.
Nevertheless, when Song Il-gook tried to persuade the triplets by saying, "If you don't let us talk about you, we won't invite you on the show," the triplets reportedly gave partial permission, saying, "(About our stories) keep it moderate." He then revealed the latest photos the triplets allowed, and resembling their 185cm-tall father and showing off the "tall gene," the triplets had grown remarkably: the eldest Dae-han at 186cm, Min-guk at 183cm, and Man-se at 180cm.
In particular, Song Il-gook expressed regret that the triplets strongly reject physical affection now that they are in puberty, and elicited smiles by saying in a surprising remark, "Man-se still accepts (kisses), but only when he's in a good mood." He also revealed that the names "Dae-han, Min-guk, Man-se" were the exclamation and the fetal nicknames of his mother Kim Eum-dong when she first heard she was pregnant with triplets, and that because they could not find better names, the triplets ultimately were named "Dae-han, Min-guk, Man-se."
Before appearing on the parenting program with the triplets, Song Il-gook said his wife opposed it, but he changed his mind and decided to appear after a recommendation from Yoo Dong-geun. When his wife said she would change her mind if Yoo Dong-geun, who had recommended actors to Song Il-gook, approved, Song called Yoo Dong-geun on the spot, and Yoo Dong-geun, who answered the phone, actively recommended, "You should do it. It will show Il-gook's good side," leading to the decision to appear. Saying, "The most beautiful moments remain," Song Il-gook expressed satisfaction with appearing on the parenting program with the triplets and said he watches that footage whenever the triplets give him trouble, making everyone laugh.
Song Il-gook confessed the quiet hardships he faced when it became known that his mother was Kim Eum-dong, saying, "People think I became a star solely because of my mother's backing, but that's not the case." He said his mother Kim Eum-dong was famous as an acting teacher to prominent actors such as Yoo Dong-geun, Jeon Gwang-yeol, and Park Sang-won, but he could not bring himself to learn acting from her while appearing in dramas. However, he said that by taking on the genre of theater, his earnest desire led him to kneel and receive acting guidance from his mother, which surprised many. Song Il-gook said, "Doing theater reborn me as an actor," and that his mindset about acting changed from that day on.
Finally, while sharing the frustrations of fighting with his judge wife, Song Il-gook said that after he changed his thinking to "childcare is my job," their marital fights decreased, drawing admiration. He also said, "My goal is to be a good husband," showing the epitome of a devoted husband to the end.
