Musical actor Jeong Min-chan, who became controversial after posting a Starbucks photo used in 'Tank Day' marketing that sparked public outcry on the May 18 pro-democracy movement anniversary, bowed his head again.
On the 23rd, Jeong Min-chan wrote on his SNS, "I usually handle performances, rehearsals and various activities alone, so I posted without properly recognizing situations related to the recent social atmosphere. I did not post it with any intent or specific message. However, as a result I caused hurt and discomfort to many people, and I belatedly realized how thoughtless and lacking I was," he said.
Jeong Min-chan said, "Also, seeing many people's opinions and reactions, I have deeply reflected on the need for those of us who express ourselves to view the social atmosphere and meaning more carefully. Although I have always conveyed people's feelings through the stage and works, I deeply regret that I failed to notice and consider parts that I should have tended to more carefully," and added, "I belatedly learned how much meaning and pain this issue holds for many people, and that there are people who are raising their voices and taking action for a better direction. I deeply reflect on the fact that I acted without properly recognizing that. I sincerely apologize to those whose feelings were hurt by my shortcomings."
Earlier, when Jeong Min-chan became embroiled in controversy over a 'Stabuck' photo, he stepped down from the musical and left a statement that stirred public debate: "I'm living my life so I don't keep up with news or issues well, and I don't know what to say with all this attention. In any case, not knowing and being ignorant are my faults, so I offer my sincere apology. I will make an effort to follow the news from now on," a remark that sounded like a show of bravado.
