Singer Park Hye-kyung recently released the new song "Dreams do not melt" and is delivering warm consolation and empathy. The song, which blends refreshing vocals and sincere storytelling, is once again moving the public's hearts.
Having steadily maintained her own color since her debut, in this activity she revealed the depth of her inner self, carved and refined by time, along with her pledge "to sing healthily for a long time."
Through this interview we heard about Park Hye-kyung's musical journey, the small secrets contained in this song, and the driving force of passion that has kept her going under the single name "singer Park Hye-kyung." Now we meet the story she delivers like a confession.
1. You are actively meeting the public with the new song "Dreams do not melt." As you prepared the new song, how are the excitements you imagined being realized through your recent activities?
Rather than excitement, I am relearning the very different way of promoting compared with before. Above all, I have a deepened belief that I must take care of my health to be able to sing for a long time.
2. When you think of "Park Hye-kyung," the refreshing vocals that come to mind give a peculiar resonance when combined with the lyrical mood of this song. Was there a point in the recording process where you felt, "I really like this part," or a passage you hope fans will listen closely to?
In fact, when recording this new song, I listened closely to and accepted the producer's suggestions more than my own will. The producer wanted a feeling of singing comfortably without embellishment, and said that if I sing naturally like that, unexpected and unintended unique things will be expressed. But when I finished recording and listened back, I felt parts that I had not known or intended came across differently. I don't want to explain that part to fans. Won't my fans enjoy finding the things I felt as they listen to this new song?
3. Everyone faces moments when dreams grow faint after colliding with reality. Despite that, what has been the driving force of passion that you could never give up, something you have kept in your heart like "ice that does not melt"?
Not just Park Hye-kyung as a person, but singer Park Hye-kyung seems to be the driving force of my passion. I came to Seoul from the countryside at 14 to become singer Park Hye-kyung, and I did not give up even when it was hard. Whatever I do, I am singer Park Hye-kyung, so those thoughts became the driving force of my passion.
4. You have received great love with bright, energetic songs such as "Confession" and "Cast a spell," but this new song feels more solemn and narrative. Was there a special trigger that led you to attempt this musical change?
The new song "Dreams do not melt" seemed to come to me naturally. I loved it the moment I first heard it. Rather than deliberately trying to change, that lack of deliberate change became the trigger for meeting this new song.
5. If there is a particular verse in the lyrics that you feel most resembles your life, a line that makes you choke up or become immersed every time you sing it, please introduce it.
I think the lines "Even if another day folds, even if time pushes me away, dreams do not melt," "Even among people I am a little transparent," and "Only my diminished wish echoes inside" resemble my life the most.
6. Having been active in the music industry for a long time, you must feel changes in your voice or depth. Perhaps that is why this new song resonates more. Compared with the beginning of your debut, what do you think is the biggest change in you as an artist?
I think my inner state has changed the most compared with the beginning of my debut. Rather than saying I have simply aged, my inner self has deepened and strengthened like fruit ripening sweetly.
7. Recently various junior singers have been remaking or covering your classic songs. As a senior singer, what emotions do you feel watching your songs continually reinterpreted?
I think, "It's pretty," and "So it can be sung this way too." I also sometimes try to imitate the remakes by junior singers by myself. I find the reinterpretations very surprising and attractive.
8. Through this activity, how would you like the public to remember "singer Park Hye-kyung" in terms of image?
I don't want to be remembered with any particular image. I have no such desire at all. I want to be remembered in the image fans naturally think of in their minds.
9. Please give a warm word of encouragement to young people who are fighting in their own places today as they listen to "Dreams do not melt."
Many people send me messages saying that after listening to my song they want to pull themselves together and live harder. I hope more people will be happier after listening to "Dreams do not melt." Thank you very much.<
