Actor Lee Seon-jung is once again drawing attention after candidly revealing the panic disorder she experienced following a whirlwind marriage and divorce, and her thoughts on remarriage.
Previously, on MBC Every1's "Video Star," Lee Seon-jung opened up about marrying after 45 days and divorcing after 4 months, saying, "It was rash. Because we decided in such a short time, our personalities and everything didn't match." However, she calmly said, "Because it was my choice, I do not regret it."
But as time passed, Lee Seon-jung, who recently appeared on the YouTube channel "Daktersin," looked back more honestly on that time. He recalled with a laugh, "That friend treated me so well then. I was swept away by that warmth," and, "It felt like it would last forever." He added, "He sent a crystal gift like an appreciation plaque, and I had never received something like that. Seeing it, I thought, 'This is the man.'"
Lee Seon-jung registered her marriage 45 days after meeting in 2012, and the fact of the divorce the same year was later revealed and drew great attention. When asked about the reason for the divorce, her trademark blunt wit continued. Opening with, "Isn't divorce because things didn't fit while living together?" she fired a blunt line that drew laughter: "Not only did our hearts not fit, our bodies didn't either. Is that enough?"
But behind the laughter were wounds that lasted a long time. Lee Seon-jung confessed, "After the divorce I was so stressed I exercised like crazy, drank, and repeated that," and added, "About six months later I developed panic disorder." She recalled, "I couldn't go to crowded places like supermarkets. I felt like I might collapse and heard strange noises," and, "At first I didn't even know it was panic disorder; I had CT and MRI scans, but they said there was nothing wrong."
It was a time when social views of divorce were also not favorable, which made it harder. In particular, she honestly conveyed, "Until about five years ago I really regretted it a lot. I would think, 'Why did I get married and end up like this?'" and added, "I am still overcoming it myself."
Among this, the fortune teller Man-shin, known for a long relationship, said, "I advised against the marriage. Your compatibilities didn't match and alcohol was a problem," but also said, "It's not that you have no luck with men. You do have luck to remarry. Just not anytime soon." Lee Seon-jung revealed remaining trauma, saying, "I especially dislike people who are overly kind or funny. My ex-husband was like that."
Meanwhile, Lee Seon-jung, who has consistently expressed her intention to return to broadcasting, said, "Whether acting or variety, I want to do it again," and her hope for a new start has made updates on her whereabouts welcome after a long time.
