Singer Hong Seo-beom and Cho Gap-kyung's son's former daughter-in-law's appeal in a common-law marriage dissolution damages lawsuit will be made public next month.
On the 23rd, according to legal sources, the Daejeon Family Court family division 1 designated June 25 as the appeal verdict date for the damages claim lawsuit filed by former daughter-in-law A against the couple's son B over dissolution of a common-law marriage. after three intense rounds of arguments, the court closed the arguments on the 21st and only the verdict remains.
This case became known to the public in September 2024 when former daughter-in-law A filed a damages claim lawsuit for dissolution of a common-law marriage, alleging "the marital relationship broke down because of B's affair."
In the first trial held last September, the court issued a ruling that recognized B's responsibility for the affair. the court ordered B to pay the plaintiff A 30 million won in consolation money, granting the plaintiff partial victory, and also ordered monthly child support of 800,000 won. however, A appealed the decision and continued the legal battle.
Hong Seo-beom's side said on a YouTube channel that "we have paid 20 million won of the 30 million won consolation payment from the first trial decision, and child support has been temporarily withheld pending the appeal." in response, former daughter-in-law A's side strongly rebutted, escalating into a battle over the truth.
When news of their son's lawsuit became public, parents Hong Seo-beom and Cho Gap-kyung issued an official statement and bowed their heads.
In their statement, the couple said, "We deeply apologize for disappointing and inconveniencing the public regarding our son's recent divorce lawsuit," and "we have solemnly confirmed that there are differences between the information we received and related materials such as the actual court ruling," partially acknowledging their son's wrongdoing.
They added, "We refrained from intervening in the process out of respect for our adult son's privacy and autonomy, but as parents we failed to closely examine our child's faults. we sincerely reflect on not having set an example as public figures," and expressed repeated apologies.
